Hey again all you dudes and guys, it’s *~*~Xx_VegetaBoi_420_xX~*~* with another guest article bringing you the hot tips on which secondary objectives are great and which ones aren’t worth your time. As always, this is my rating system:
A: Very good, always worth taking unless the situation doesn’t warrant it
B: Sometimes good, sometimes not, depending on opponent.
C: Very iffy, wouldn’t recommend it unless they have the right units
D: Definitely not worth it, except in niche cases
F: Never useful, do not pick except in specific circumstances
Engage on All Fronts 2VP each turn that you are wholly within three table quarters and more than 6″ from the center, or 3VP instead if you were in all four
Rating: D-
This is not one that you’ll be happy to take most of the time, since it requires you to spread yourself out across the board, making it hard to take advantage of powerful auras like the Greater Daemons’ ability to share their Leadership or a Sanctus’s ability to do mortal wounds. However, some builds may be able to take advantage of it so I can’t give it the absolute lowest grade.
Linebreaker 4VP at the end of the turn if you have two units wholly within the enemy deployment zone
Rating: D
This one is a little better since it just requires you to get two units into the enemy’s zone, which is easily done with Aircraft or reserve units on the first turn. It also gives you a lot more points, nearly twice as many, which means you can pretty easily ignore the primary objective and just focus on maxing out your score from this.
Domination 3VP if you control more than half of the objectives at the end of your turn
Rating: F
The enemy is going to be moving their units onto objectives constantly, which means you’ll probably never have a chance to score this unless you get really lucky. Since you need to have more than half of the objectives, and a typical game has either four, five, or six objectives, that is 4 + 5 + 6 = 17 / 2 = 5.5, or nearly six objectives per turn for the entire game! Not worth it.
Thin Their Ranks 1VP for every 10 models (or every model with 10+ wounds) that you kill
Rating: C
This one is pretty bad but I don’t mind it because last time my friend Derek brought a list with a bunch of Guardsmen and I was killing them pretty fast and by the end of the game he had almost nothing left and I scored 15 points off this, which is a lot. We didn’t get to finish the game (only got to turn 5) but I think I would’ve won eventually.
Grind Them Down 3VP at the end of the battle round if you destroyed more units than the enemy
Rating: D+
Although it’s not as good as the last one, you can get a lot of points off this if you keep killing units. But you have to kill more units than the enemy, which is pretty hard. It’s very good for most armies, unless it’s not, in which case you shouldn’t take it.
While We Stand, We Fight Choose the three most expensive models in your army, gain 5VP for each that is alive at the end of the game
Rating: F
I don’t like this one at all, since it requires you to get into melee if you want to use it effectively. That’s fine for some armies, but when I’m trying to control the objectives at the same time my opponent keeps moving their units around, it’s just too confusing. Hard pass.
Titan Hunter Gain 10VP if you destroy at least one enemy Titanic model, 12VP if you destroy at least two, and 15VP if you destroy at least three
Rating: C-
This one is pretty niche, but if your opponent has a lot of Land Raiders or Land Speeders it can be useful. My friend Derek said you can’t take this one when you’re playing less than 3000pts so that’s a big disadvantage because I killed all his Knights, but otherwise this isn’t too useful so I generally take it a lot.
Bring It Down Gain 2VP for each vehicle or monster you destroy, or 3VP instead if they had 11+ wounds
Rating: F+
This is another one that is hard to max out, since you’re going to be sitting on the objectives most of the time and that means not being able to shoot while you perform an action with your own vehicles. I wouldn’t ever take this one, unless your opponent specifically has chosen to forgo any troops and so you don’t have any other options. Still, it can be very good.
Cut Off The Head Gain VP based on the battle round your opponent’s warlord was slain in
Rating: F
Who even aims for the enemy warlord, anyways?? This one is completely useless, I would never take it over anything else. A complete waste of space. Not worth your time. Useless, completely useless. No reason to focus on it at all. In fact, better that you just stop thinking about it entirely.
Assassinate 3VP for each character you kill
Rating: F-
I’m not really sure why you would take this one, since a battalion only has three HQ slots at most? Probably it’s a mistake that will get fixed in the next FAQ.
Raise the Banners High gain one victory point each time you take an action, to raise one of the banners on an objective each time the unit is not within 6″ of an enemy unit and at the end of your command phase, each unit unless the enemy controls the objective is more than 6″ away
Rating: ??????
I’m gonna be honest I tried reading this one a couple times and I never understood it. I think you have to get onto an objective and then… you take an action with the enemy’s infantry?! I asked Derek about it and he said not to worry about it so I chose one of the other secondaries. So I’m gonna give it a C-, unless Derek lied to me in which case I’m gonna beat his ass.
Investigate Sites 3VP each time you take an action while within 6″ of the center of the table
Rating: D+
This one is kinda hard, but you can combine it with Psychic Ritual and double up near the center of the table so that’s pretty good. But on the other hand, if you don’t have any psykers in your army you can’t do this, so it won’t be as useful. So I averaged the scores out and then lowered them one rank, as is standard.
Deploy Scramblers 10VP if you perform the action three times within 6″ but not in either players’ deployment zone edge zone
Rating: D++
This one just seems like it’s just better than Investigate Sites?? C’mon GW you gotta do better than this. There’s no reason to have multiple objectives that are just identical copies of each other.
Teleport Homer 4VP each time you complete an action inside the enemy deployment zone
Rating: D++++
OH COME ON THREE OF THEM IN A ROW WHY ARE THEY EVEN DOING THIS?!?!
Abhor the Witch 5VP each time you destroy a psyker character, or 3VP each time you dembstrol a psychic muni that the enmy is not a charicature
Rating: D-
Okay so I didn’t actually get to finish reading all of these but I think this is almost the end so I’m just gonna skip over the rest of them. I don’t think this one is very good because I was pretty tired when I read it and the manager said that the store was closing so I had to put the book down and leave, but I got the general gist of it.
Anyways thanks for reading my review broskis and make sure to check out my YouTube channel where I read these articles back verbatim into a low-quality headset mic and also sometimes I use racial slurs but ironically(haha!) as a joke.
