Reece, can you confirm the Thousand Sons / GK Smite question as mentioned in the podcast? the Brotherhood of Sorcerors rule was in an 8th ed FAQ and seems to be missing from 9th. Intentional change or just a mistake?
Thanks!
We’ll have to wait for the FAQ but the intent as I understand it is for sure a no, it isn’t spammable.
I’m not referring to a same caster doing multiple smites. Rather the BOS rule previously made Smite always be WC5 for TSons and GK and that part seems to be missing.
Thanks for the reply and everything you do for comp 40k!
Ah, my bad, misunderstood your question. I am not certain on that but will see if I can get an answer.
So my first 9th game was pretty eye openning
Yeah the game fundamentally changed in 2 different ways that weren’t really in the rules part of the rulebook:
1. New missions + 5 turn games (in which 1 and 5 are half turns) mean that your opponent can’t sit in deployment for 4+ turns. Heck, he can’t do it for 1 turn really.
2. Smaller map, more terrain. Per GW’s recommendations there’s supposed to be 18+ terrain pieces, 6-7 of these are big los blocks (4 in corners and 2-3 in the middle)
So now all those unplayable footslogging melee units work really well. Since they only need to cross half of the distance and they can go from obscuring to obscuring to your opponents face. It’s so great and I had SO MUCH fun in my first 9th game, using units I’ve never dreamt of using. It also was a one-sided game, which are never fun… except it was VERY FUN and engaging.
Daemon codex just got a lot of good units and didn’t get a single rules change. Chariots/Cavalry still suck though :p
That’s really awesome to hear! Glad you like it.
