Hey everyone! Adam, from TFG Radio, here to talk about the impending crescendo that is the release of the new edition of Warhammer 40,000.
This week certainly has been a busy one. In addition to the core rules being released we got the point values shown to us. Ok it was more like read to us and we just took notes and I know for a lot of us it was probably the first time we ever took notes when being lectured. That was not all! We even got a stealth release of the FAQs for all of the codexes leading into the new edition. There does seem to be some units and codexes missing but we’ll talk about that in a little bit since this week I will talk about a few things I look forward to in the upcoming new edition.
Trying out new units
Let’s face it, by now the meta and what is good to take was relatively stagnant. Many of us were looking forward to the Psychic Awakening books to hopefully give us more options for our armies to take advantage of. The current pandemic has put a bit of a damper on that so now I am looking forward to going over the points lists and testing out units that have not seen use in a while or armies that I haven’t played before. I know some units are still bad but I think with the new point values and smaller battlefield, some units that were sitting on the shelf will see some action.
New GT Missions
We got an early glimpse at some of the GT missions and people are already making grandiose statements before they even play them. I don’t think that I am qualified to make a statement about the quality of the missions for that reason. I am still looking forward to playing them and seeing what I can do within the confines of the mission. Over the 20+ years I have been playing in 40K tournaments I can tell you that there have been some doosies in regards to missions. My philosophy for all this is just to play with whatever the tournament gives me. With that in mind, I intend to play the missions as presented and then just figure out a way to work within the confines of the mission in order to win. Bitching and moaning about this won’t get me anywhere and I can better apply that energy elsewhere, like building the models I need to win those missions. I’ll probably have a more informed opinion after a month or two of playing them, which is why I look forward to these.
New Lore
Just because I have been playing in tournaments for the last couple decades doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate the lore of the game. The lore and imagery is what got me into the game to begin with. One issue I always had with the lore was that it never went anywhere. It was always one minute before midnight across the galaxy. With 8th edition we actually got new lore that actually moved the story forward. This edition I can’t if we are getting new lore for the current time period or if they are moving the plot forward again. Either way, i am excited to see some of the new stories that will be coming out as this new edition progresses.
That’ all for this week. hope you enjoyed the article. Let me know what you think, and what you are looking forward to in the new edition, in the comments below.
