My favorite unit I’ve grown comfortable using during quarantine-hammer games is the Harlequin Troupe squad. They have so much going for them, in terms of access to great strats, command points, and the excellent Harlequin characters. This list is an amalgamation of the greatest units Eldar has to offer smushed together with the Harlequin troupes.
If you talk to nearly any Eldar player on the internet, you’d know we love Nightspinners and Shining Spears. They offer some very important functions for ITC games in particular. Nightspinners give you indirect firearms to pick up kills in the early game, and they can shoot hidden units off of objectives. Shining Spears are the best all-round unit have access to. They are decently costed, fast, hard to kill, can receive tons of defensive and offensive buffs, and they have the offensive output to deal with vehicles and infantry. So comboing these units is a no brainer.
I’ve added the Harlequins in after running a pure Harlequin list in a virtual league, (I talk about the list here,) and just really enjoying these units. First, they give me command points, which really just let me use all the great Harlequin strats like fight twice (the only way Aeldari can do that, except for one Wych cult stratagem) +1 to wound and some other great abilities. They are deceptively hard to kill as well, and their ability to move over models and terrain means all of my threats ignore models and terrain since the Shining Spears have fly.
In principle I really like all the pieces this army has. The way I play it is by pushing out for board control with the Storm Guardians early game. Normally, I. would be worried that they could be wrapped in combat, but the Harlequins and Shining Spears largely resolve that issue. With the Storm Guardians screening out deep strike threats like Raven Guard Centurions or Blood Angel Melee bombs, I can safely take the middle of the board with my SPears and Harlequin Troupes and characters. Since I have three units, I can leave either one of them or a Storm guardian Unit in the back field to hold objectives or screen out my Night Spinners.
It has the ability to take on different types of targets, good psychic support, and most importantly, I have a great time playing it. I’m pretty stoked on this list so far, and can’t wait to test it’s mettle IRL when the time comes. Until then, it’s virtual 40k for me. Let me know what you think of the list in the comments below!
