Tactics Corner
Completed Commissions
And remember, Frontline Gaming sells gaming products at a discount, every day in their webcart!
I don’t get why people think old Marines were particularly underpowered?
They were somewhat stuck in a mono-build-corner (as many armies are), but they had an army in the shadowround at the previous LVO (which is about the kind of result you’d expect of any given army out of 15-ish Codexes competing to get into a set of 12) and won the odd event here and there.
Either way, I don’t think the “space marine problem” is even that.
The problem is and has been essentially since the very first Marine Codex that GW’s approach to “fixing” things mostly has been to dial up the damage output of armies, improving their accuracy, adding more shots, bonus abilities to wound, add better re-rolls, more reliable charges, more abilities ot shoot twice, fight twice, stack buffs and bonuses, more abilities to ignore penalties and neg. modifiers such as having moved or damaged vehicles, etc.., etc.., because players generally dislike having their units working at “sub optimal efficiency” or “whiffing”.
Which is what is so silly about the idea of Marines in their current form being allegedly (intentionally) the first of a new “8.5” Edition with other armies being “brought up” eventually.
That, IMO, is just going further down the rabbit hole. At some point, you cannot sensibly fix the game by bringing other armies “up to that level” of lethality and reliability. At some point (perhaps this truly does need an “edition change” to sell the bitter medicine), stuff IMO will need to significantly “go down” (e.g. get “nerfed” / lose efficiency / abilities, etc..) to not end up in a coin-flip game.
Backhanded compliment here I come!
I never agreed with your general stance of upping defence as I hate that games drag forever and that seemed like a natural outcome of increasing defence.
I’d also say in the context of ‘regular humans’ being prevalent in the game old marines were definitely weak. They didn’t kill anything and were boring.
That being said, can’t argue that upping everythings damage output and multiple stacking special rules doesn’t really lead to a better experience over all so perhaps youve been onto something all along ?
I would like to come back again with the Hobby Track that is not handled properly as I did for last season. I had 3-4 events last year that scores weren’t entered properly or that BCP didn’t manage to put in properly. This costed me around 70 pts and got me out of the top 10 for the Hobby Track. 2 weeks ago my team and I want to Canhammer Team Tournament, and I’m pretty sure we scored the most point for presentation (we got 3rd Overall Trophies instead as it was a bigger prize), but BCP awarded us the same score we had in battle points (8th place) instead of our first place in Hobby Track. This is another difference of 65 points that we don’t get and that Team Charity Hammer is getting instead as they got first place for battle points. I did contact the TO and was told that he sent a request to change this to BCP and it is now in their hands. I also contacted BCP and they didn’t even react to my request after a couple of days.
This is definitely frustrating for those of us that put the effort in this hobby and competition. It should be resolved and not ignored as I feel it is. I’m pretty sure that if we were talking about the battle point scores, people would consider that a big issue and put some effort in resolving it.
I’m trying to figure out what hapenned with the CanHammer event, they didn’t score it correctly for some reason. But yes, that is frustrating for sure.
There’s generally seems to be a problem with certain events publishing scores using what I’m told is an ITC rubric. Last year I won best painted at 3 majors/gts and scored 0 competitive points. I say zero because while I was given points towards the ITC it was the same points submitted to everyone for Hobby.
I know it’s up to the TO, but maybe there’s a way Itc can at least figure out who took first second and third and award points appropriately or something I don’t know. It was just really frustrating
