GW Grognard: The 3 Other Missions (no, really)

Hey everyone! Adam, from TFG Radio, here once again to help you seperate the wheat from the chaff that is 40K.

As you all know by now Frontline has released the beta version of the missions for the 2020 ITC season. There has already been all kinds of talk about the changes to the old ITC missions. Some people are happy with the changes, some people are sad that there wasn’t enough changed but we all have our opinions. It was mentioned that there would be an additional three missions to add to the initial six missions we are always using. They needed to be polished a little before they could be released so Frontline decided to release the first six with the last 3 following close behind. Lucky for you, dear listener, I have found the 3 missions and will give you a brief description of them here.

Everything is set up for you

Mission #7 – Battle at the Farm

This missions is easy to set up and get going. If you look at the above picture, it shows you where all the terrain goes. Just like you players want, you get fixed terrain and even a fixed deployment zone. The game play is even faster! The “defender” only uses 15 of his troops, plus one commander and places them any where in the farm. this is the cattle pen, ruin of outhouse, and the main building. The “attacker” has 20 troops, plus one commander, and enters from the eastern board edge. Attacker has first turn. Fight to the last man and the winner gets the full 42 points! How easy is that? You should also be done with the game in about 30-45 minutes. Plenty of time to walk around the tournament and watch other games, or wait for BCP to start working.

Mission #8 – Tankapalooza!

This is another mission ahead of it’s time. The terrain set up in this missions doesn’t really matter. The deployment is normal ITC and there is one little wrinkle: you can only use vehicles. This is mainly to appease those competitive players that like to use tanks. Whether its a main battle tank, large superheavy, or a humble transport, if it has armor it is allowed on the battlefield. If you bring transports you can put a troop squad inside but that’s it. Unfortunately, if you happen to bring an army with no vehicles you are out of luck and auto -lose. Once again this is an all or nothing mission so you either score 42 or 0. Good luck with this one!

Mission #9 – Traitor

This mission is fun for everyone. You actually get to play with your entire army in this one. The special thing about this mission is that you get to trade a model with your opponent. one of your models is a traitor and decides, before the battle, to switch sides. Now there are a few restrictions. Fist off, the traitor has to be a model from the elite slot. If you do not have any elites than the model must be one from the troops slot. Fun, right? Imagine the joy of trading a contemptor dread for a grot, or, if you happen to be that guy, exchanging your Warhound titan for a primaris marine. This mission is probably the best of the three so be sure to give it a go.

Well, that’s all for this week. i hope you enjoyed the article and give these new missions a try and let Frontline know what you think in the comments section below.
