LVO 2020 Top 100 Tables

Based on popular feedback, we have decided to standardize the top 100 tables at the LVO 2020. Striking a balance between having variety in table aesthetics and layouts which the majority of players have told us they prefer, and having some predictability in the top tables for the dedicated competitors.

Based on feedback from our staff of judges and the awesome players at the Charity Hammer event, we have decided to do something new and exciting for these tables to ensure the best possible play experience. No one table layout is going to be optimal for 6 different deployment types and frankly, playing on the exact same terrain layout every game gets a bit stale to play on and to watch.

So, we have adopted this new strategy to adapt the terrain to the deployment to provide optimal experience regardless of deployment type. The below terrain layouts will be used depending on the deployment type rolled each game. As terrain must be adjusted pre-game as it inevitably gets moved during the course of the game, this should flow into the experience quite easily. And, each of the top 100 tables will have an illustrated hand-out on the table to help facilitate this process with terrain definitions.

To further accommodate this new strategy, we will not be randomizing table assignments, meaning that if you are winning your games you will be playing on these tables. Assuming normal attrition, we predict that all undefeated players will be playing on these tables by round 3 at the latest. So, if you want to utilize these next two weeks to practice with the intent of making top 8, you can assume that these are the tables you will most likely be playing on. A few practice rounds adjusting the terrain and getting used to them will make playing at the LVO even smoother. For reference, the hills pictured average 4″ in height and 10-14″ in length. The Cargo Containers are treated as hills for rules purposes and the area terrain pieces treated as providing cover to units normally but have no other rules. Also, the exact buildings used may vary slightly from table to table but will be the same rough dimensions.

Players will set the terrain during step 2 of the normal ITC Champion’s Missions order of operations. Terrain is to be placed cooperatively and the images below are guidelines to be used to achieve an approximation. Actual tables will vary slightly. Players will agree before moving on to the next step in the mission order of operations that the terrain is agreeable and represents as closely as they can achieve the images below. If players need help setting their table, call a judge to adjudicate. When selecting a deployment zone, it must be one of those depicted in the images, ie. you cannot choose a deployment zone not labeled Player A or Player B in Vanguard or Spearhead.
