Hey everybody! Adam, from TFG Radio, here to raise his cane at all you youngins out there in the 40K universe!
I’ve had a lot of models in my life**. From a very young age, when I was first introduced to the hobby by my uncle, I enjoyed collecting the models. I even remember what my first wargaming models were: a few pack of 20mm Vietnam US Army troops and Viet Cong soldiers. I loved them. Over the proceeding years I collected a lot of models from a wide range of manufacturers. It wasn’t until I was smitten with the original Adeptus Titanicus, and the story of the Horus Heresy, that I leaned heavily into the Games Workshop world. As the years moved along I gathered a large number of armies. This was especially true as I started to play in more competitive tournaments. I basically had built and played every army and had amassed a large collection. I eventually sold all those armies during the “Great Purge of 2005”. When I fully jumped back into the game I began to amass a large number of models again, but I could never recapture the love I had for the one army that i should have never sold, my Black Legion army.
A little back story, for those that don’t know. The legion I gravitated to when I read about the Horus Heresy was the Black Legion. The idea of the best legion having a fall from grace and then, at the time, were in the middle of climbing back to the top fascinated me. Also the fact they they didn’t commit to just one chaos god also appealed to me. Once I started playing the game, and especially playing in tournaments, I enjoyed building the army more. Back then it was worth extra points in the tournament the more you made a back story for your army. I name all my aspiring champions, and my Daemon Prince, whose face you see as my avatar. I used all the daemons from the codex. Although not the strongest codex at the beginning of 3rd edition, they became very strong thanks to the now legendary 3.5 codex. Having a strong codex simply deepened my enjoyment of the army. Over the years I did build and play other armies, however I always come back to my Black Legion. Unfortunately life happens and I had to make cuts in my life in order to make due. I sold all of my other armies with my Black Legion army being the very last army that I sold. With a heavy heart i put about 99% of the army up for sale. Although I kept a few models, I did include my Daemon Prince in the army.
I really wish i hadn’t sold that army, or at least i should have kept the daemon prince. I know some people, like Salty John, have no attachments to their armies and can easily buy and sell armies with no qualms. When I got back in the game I started to build my Black legion again. I used some of the models that I had kept from my previous army as the core and built it from there. I even still have some of the original beakie models that I had converted to Black Legion. They are a bit smaller than today’s CSM but they are a physical reminder to me of my fight in the Long War. I even still have, and use, my original Chaos Lord. He still leads the legion on occasion, when Abaddon isn’t available. I don;t think I will ever sell this army this time, no matter what. I have plenty of other armies that i have no problem selling. I already lost them once, I hope to not lose them again. especially if they become really good again 😉

** I wish
Truth. I’ve sold a number of Armies over the years, and I have no doubt I’ll sell more, but my Alpha Legion are never going anywhere.
Dear WestRider,
That’s a wonderful sentiment; thank you for sharing it! We over at BTE! have only just heard of the Alpha Legion, but they sure sound like a swell group.

I still have my White Scars Army, I have sold of pieces of it before, Land Speeders, Land Raiders, Terminators, Dreadnaughts and such. I dont even have anything left over from the AOBR set i started with. But its still the same army kinda. I have regrets of selling a few pieces, mostly the infantry, but the army is still the same one in my heart.
