Hey everyone! Adam, from TFG Radio, here to calm all those frazzled 40K nerves.
SoCal Open has come and gone and the universe is still here. I’m not sure if that is a good or bad thing. I was actually fortunate enough to attend and had a good time. I play 5 great games, I won’t talk about one of them(you’ll have to listen to the podcast) and we had a great time at our team BBQ. unfortunately I went 2-4, which is the same record I had at last year’s SoCal Open. My below average record aside, there is one thing that occurred both at the event and over the weekend. Marines, especially Iron Hands, did not dominate the top spot. I can only come to one conclusion, Iron Hands are not as bad as people made them out to be.
As you can see from various sources, this weekend saw a lot of non marine armies come out on top. Even here at SoCal Open, you had the top spot taken by Tau. The Tau player even played the final match against a non Space marine army for the top spot. Sure, it was Knights with Imperial Guard but you know what it wasn’t? Iron Hands, Raven Guard, or White Scars. You had to go all the way down to third place before you saw any Space Marine armies at all. That really tells me that Games Workshop did it right when they released the fabulous Iron Hands FAQ. The fact that no Iron Hands armies won any major events this weekend goes to show you that all the hair pulling and gnashing of teeth was for nothing. Everything is back to normal and it shows that anyone can win a Grand Tournament with any army. Although I only went 2-4, I have a 100% win rate against Iron Hands so I can tell you from experience that they aren’t that bad and can easily be dealt with by any army. Yup, my 1 game versus Iron Hands has shown me the truth.
What’s that you say? What about Salamanders and Imperial Fists? I’m sure there is nothing to worry about. Why would I listen to rumors about untargetable units, flamers that auto hit with the maximum amount of shots, or bolters that can easily take down a knight. I’m sure those are just over exaggerations by players that are just wish listing. Games Workshop would never create another set of codexes that were over powered so much that they would have to tone it down a few weeks later. That would never happen. And if it does, so what? As we have just seen, marines still aren’t good enough to win a major tournament so I don’t expect these books to make a big splash. Poor, poor Space Marines, they still need a lot of help. Now please excuse me as I go build my Imperial Fists army.
That’s all for this week, I hope you enjoyed the read. Let me know your thoughts, and what you think of the current Space Marine books. Don’t forget to visit our Facebook, Twitch, and Patreon pages to stay up to date on what we’re up to and when episodes drop!
