Tournaments can take up a lot of space. For this reason they are held in various types of buildings. From high school gymnasiums to local veteran lodges to church halls, there are many different places where you can have a tournament. As a result we see events of various sizes. There are small 8 man tournaments up to the 800+ event that is the Las Vegas Open that use up as much of that space as possible. Because of this there are some limits to how much elbow room there is in between table. Due to this limitation, there are times where there is not a lot of room to move, so please try not to use your giant 10 foot display piece, or your 1950’s classroom cart to move your army around.
As I already mentioned, there are sometimes places where it can be difficult to move around. This is a result of organizers trying to do too much and cram as many tables as possible into a small place. This makes it hard to move around and even can cause that gaming funk we are all familiar with due to the mass of bodies, and the heat depending on the time of year. Not even the best air conditioning can help. into this you add big as carts and displays that take up the whole aisle, and becomes similar to the traffic that everyone from Southern California is familiar with. The large displays and carts just cause people to get upset because it is more difficult to move around. Sure it might be easier for you to move your army around, but how much are you really moving if your standing still because you can’t get around the people. I’m sure your large display cart is very nice and useful, but why do you really need to show off such a large display to begin with?
That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t bring them. There are plenty of places that have enough room for you to spread your wings. Boise Cup and SoCal Open are just a couple of examples of tournaments that have ample amount of space around each table, so you are no longer “buts to nuts” at a tournament. just be sure to look and see what kind of space they have. If the tournament has been around for a while, you can easily see what type of space they are working with and plan accordingly. Just please be sure you don’t bring your oversized cart or display piece and swing it around like a bull in a china shop. You may just get yelled at because you’re taking so much space.*
