This Week in the ITC: Some New Faces in the Top 10 and Changes to Best in Faction!

Hello, fellow Warhammer 40k fans! SaltyJohn from TFG Radio, and one of the Las Vegas Open Head Judges, here to bring you another article reviewing the ITC Standings for the 2019 season with the new scoring method in place.

This was an exciting week in the ITC! Adepticon is in the books, and there’s been no drama on the internet anywhere that I know of! Right? Awesome. Moving on.

Reece announced a few big things. First, the Missions have been updated after feedback on them from the Tournament Organizers was gathered. I am really happy that overall the changes to the missions were positively received. Particularly Pick Your Poison and King of the Hill. I have yet to have a game where picking King of the Hill was a good decision for me, but I am going to keep trying.  Reece also announced the results of the poll on how Best in Faction would be qualified for. While I was not surprised by the outcome of the vote I was a little disappointed, but this isn’t a US Presidential Election where we overrule the will of the people. The players voted for the change, and it was a landslide. No Electoral College or Supreme Court is going to step in and decide in favor of the minority opinion Soup players, so deal with it!

Also, Reece announced that the So Cal Open tickets went up for sale! If you’re inclined to go I suggest you snatch up a ticket now while you can, they are going fast and I am sure it will sell out. It’s a great event, and a great chance to accrue some big ITC points! If you’re gunning for one of those Best in Faction prizes you need to get out there and perform well with your pure list at a few big events.  Let’s take a look at the top 10 in the ITC.

First place has Daniel Hesters holding off John Lennon by a scant 12 points. Hesters continues to represent Knights well, it will be interesting to see how his Faction is changed going forward, the same holds true for John Lennon and his strong showing so far as Genestealer Cults. GSC seems to have done pretty well for itself as far as the Factions go, with a unit of 3 Vultures still being allowed in a GSC “pure” list! Seems pretty good.

This place has a prominent podcaster, and So Cal Player, representing the West Coast and Alaitoc Craftworld hard. Last year’s Best in Faction Asuryani player Ray Ahumada from The Veteran Gamer Reenlisted podcast. If you can deal with foul language, off-color jokes, and a lot of beer with your 40k then this podcast is well worth a listen. They are also sponsoring the first ever GT Level event in Temecula California at the end of July the Slaughterfest!

Richard Siegler, Andrew Ford, Shane Watts, and Scott Horras fill in spots 4-7 respectively. They have some really impressive scores between the 3 of them. All currently have 4 of 5 potential scores in the books. At this point in the season, it seems many players are missing a Major but have plenty of RTTs and even GTs under their belts.

Two members of Peace through Dakka are in the top 10. It is disconcerting to me though that despite the team name neither Shane nor Scott are playing Orks. There is a distinctive lack of Dakka, Gork and Mork are most definitely not pleased by this. In 8th place is Bethany Taylor the first woman to crack into the top 10 this season, well done! Ivan Cho and Darrick Simon round out the top 10 overall in the ITC this week.

What’s this!? Two more members of Peace Through Dakka in the top 10? 40% of the ITC top ten from a single team and it isn’t even Beast Coast or the top team on the team rankings! Worst of all, there’s still an absolute dearth of Boyz on this team from what the top 10 is showing me. For shame, but also congratulations on your successes so far this season.

It’s a great race so far for the best team in the ITC this season. All 5 of those teams have some great players who are performing well and a few of the teams have some sleepers that are yet to come out swinging this season. It will get really interesting when the benches are emptied and all the teams are competing at full capacity. That’s all I have for this week in the ITC. I will start to go back into the Factions in a few weeks when the change over has been implemented in terms of qualifying for factions and the new factions have started to see some results put in.
