GW Grognard: Get on Board the Heresy Train

Hey everyone! Adam, from TFG Radio, here to mesmerize you with my hypnotic voice!

We all know I’ve been a chaos player for a very long time. I first started on the dark path back with the original Adeptus Titanicus game and my interest in the Horus Heresy grew from there. It then moved on to Rogue Trader, where I learned about what had happened to the traitor legions during the subsequent centuries and there evolution into the chaos space marines we see today.  I played them during their high point of the 3.5 codex and suffered along with my fellow followers of the Dark Gods, as they were slowly pushed back by the plotting of the evil forces that are called the rules designers. I even played other armies as my chaos forces gathered dust on the shelves in my game room. That has all changed now with the upcoming releases, and I am back on the Heresy Train(TM) with my Black Legion leading the way.

The recent releases have me very excited. I very much enjoy the aesthetic of the new chaos space marines, and we have already seen that they will be a larger sale than before, more in keeping with the primaris marines. The release of a new Abaddon model, after almost 20 years, has me excited to get my hands on  him and get him on the tabletop as soon as possible. The daemon engine looks cool and even the obliterators look good with a much needed new sculpt. Although I don’t think you can do any worse than the blow up dolls type look of the original models. After seeing what some armies got with the first Vigilus book, I am looking forward to seeing what detachments we get for chaos in the one coming up. I am really excited about this release and wonder why anyone would play anything other than chaos.

With all that love being gushed, there is still that thought in the back of my mind, what will the rules actually be. As much as I love the look of some of the models, there is the issue of the rules for those models. There is a reason there is a large influx of new recruits in the ranks of the chaos space marines, but not very many actual chaos space marines. Event the daemon engines are a bit sub par, when compared to some the daemon engines that you can get through Forgeworld. The new Lord Discordant looks really cool, but if they give him too many wounds, along with rules that are ok, he may not see as much play in my army. Maybe I’m hoping too much in that I want a few more ways to play, if I want to be competitive. I will still get the models, they are too good not to. I’ve been doing this for a long time and the Long War continues…

That’s all for this week, I hope you enjoyed the read. Let me know your thoughts, and what you think(or hope) for the new chaos stuff, in the comments section. Don’t forget to visit our Facebook, Twitch, and Patreon pages to stay up to date on what we’re up to and when episodes drop!
