Charity Exhibition 40k Game at LVO!

We’ve got an exciting exhibition 40k match for you on Thursday at the LVO!

During the LVO 2018, we had a sportsmanship issue arise during the live stream semi-final game of the Warhammer 40k Championships finals that could have been quite unfortunate, but became a wonderful display of not only exceptional sportsmanship but also generosity.

Alex Fennell was one of the players in said game and on the receiving end of a rather unsportsmanlike play that left him in no position to win the game. As this was the semi-final game to crown the ITC Season Champion on the line, not to mention cash and prizes, it would be easy to lose one’s cool. However, Alex in a genuine display of sportsmanship, took it in stride and rolled with the punches, keeping his head and maintained decorum.

This seemed that it would have been the end of the story, but unbeknownst to all, Marc “Tryndamere” Merrill of Riot games (makers of League of Legends) was watching and reached to donate a $5,000 sportsmanship prize to Alex for staying positive in the face of a tough situation. Alex then decided on the spot to donate the money to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center! The story doesn’t end there though, as Alex’s employer, Prudential, then matched the donation. Games Workshop, being moved by the display ALSO matched the donation for what ended up becoming a whopping $15,000 donation to charity, all as a result of choosing to take the high road in what seemed an extremely unfair situation.

In the spirit of celebrating sportsmanlike conduct even in the fiercest of competitions, Alex, Marc and the ITC have teamed up to create the annual Alex Fennell ITC Sportsmanship Award, sponsored by Marc “Trydamere” Merrill which will be awarded to exceptional members of the competitive 40k community each year to donate to a charity of their choice. To kick off this wonderful new tradition, Marc and Alex have agreed to play in an exhibition game live on stream at the LVO 2019. This game will be broadcast on Frontline Gaming’s Twitch channel. The game begins at 3:00pm PST!

And as it is always fun to see the lists in advance, let’s take a look at our competitor’s armies!
