In the Finest Hour Episode 06: Making Space

The latest episode of In the Finest Hour is here, with your usual triumvirate of hosts- AbusePuppy, the Lady of Titan, and Death Himself.

In this week’s episode, we talk about the concept of controlling space on the table, breaking it up into several different forms and discussing how each of them can be used during the game as well as why they’re important. Whether you’re trying to stop reserves from arriving in your backfield, keep the enemy away from your gunline, or hold the center of the board to score objectives, controlling the space on the game table is fundamental to the Warhammer and it’s a strategy that top tournament players use constantly.

In the first part of the episode, we break the concept down into three smaller pieces- namely, board control (holding sections of the table), blocking (preventing enemy reserves from arriving where you don’t want them), and screening (physically interposing your units so that the other player can’t get to them.) We talk about each strategy in turn and how they can affect your game as well as the sorts of units that perform these roles best. We also talk about the concept of tempo and why Einstein was so right- space is time. In the second half of things, we go over ways you can use this control to advance your game and ways you can prevent your opponent from using it against you, as well as the types of armies that should be most concerned with each of the three strategies.

As a reminder, this week is your final chance to donate to the CharityHammer marathon stream to help decide what list(s) Nick Nanavati plays this coming weekend. If you’re looking for some great games from top 40K players streaming for two straight days, morning, noon, and night, I highly recommend you check it out. Viewing the stream is free, though we do ask that if you can afford to pitch in even just a few bucks please do so- all proceeds will go directly to Child’s Play charities to help out children in hospitals.

As always, you can contact us by posting here, sending us an email at inthefinalhour@gmail.com, or messaging us through our Facebook group- we’re happy to answer questions, get comments or criticism, take suggestions for future topics you’d like to see, or just talk about Warhammer for a bit.
