Hi everyone, Mike here with the second part of my Dark Angels Primaris Marine project. This part takes a look at building the army. For more reviews and analyses, check out the Tactics Corner.
This past week, I have been building some more of the models for my Dark Angels Primaris army. I have previously assembled and painted a few characters, as well as a unit of Intercessors and Hellblasters to supplement my Dark Angels army. However, to go for a whole Primaris army, I was going to need a lot more models!
Most of my army is based on the models from the Dark Imperium boxed set and the “Easy to Build” range of models. These kits are fantastic for a starting gamer. They are really easy to put together and look great, a long cry from the easy to build, mono-pose Orks and Space Marines of yesteryear.
Another thing I like about these kits is that all the parts for a single model are generally close together on the same sprue. You don’t need to go searching for ages on the various sprues in the kit to find that tiny piece missing from your model.
This article gives some basic advice for those new to the game, as well as a few hints and tips, so experienced gamers will probably know all this already!
When assembling my models, I use:
- cutting mat
- clippers
- hobby knife
- pin vice
- metal file
- plastic glue
The clippers are great for taking models off of the plastic sprue. I use the hobby knife and file to remove any mould lines on the models, as well as remove any parts of the sprue that are left on while clipping. The pin vice can be used to drill holes in gun barrels.
Another useful part of my hobby kit is a lighter. When using the plastic glue, it can sometimes dry in the nozzle and block it. You can use the lighter to heat the nozzle of the applicator to melt the dried glue and allow it to run again. Obviously, you should take care when using the lighter and only use it on the metal part of the applicator.
Also, make sure you use the glue in a well ventilated area, lest you start to hear the voices of the ruinous powers whisper in your ear. Don’t believe their lies, T’au are awesome in 8th edition!
I find that assembling my models is a great time to catch up on Signals From the Frontline. This makes some great background listening when putting your models together. With the bulk of my army assembled, I am going to begin getting them painted up so that I have a force ready to take to the tabletop in the coming months.
