We’ll never know what happened to those goff trukk boyz… 🙁
BTW I have no idea why you would ever use trukk boyz. Trukks give away BGH pts like candy and taking boyz in trukks is like taking away all the good stuff they have – aka no big blob for morale, green tide, fight again, +1 attack, efficient warpath, hiding the nob better purposes. Transports are either for protecting a ranged unit (open topped) or for protecting and getting an elite melee unit somewhere fast. However when the crew costs the same as the transport in the case of boyz…
Why would I use Trukk Boys….because I like to?
Haha, that game is, after all, meant to be fun.
Clearly fun* is not allowed in this hobby.
*Unless fun is number-crunching spreadsheets to maximize damage output and optimal points efficiency. Anything else is for filthy casuals.
It’s not really number crunching in this case. It’s basic list design. If you put boyz in trukks, you should have a reason for doing so and not doing something else instead. Unless it’s like a narrative game, but Reece plays “matched play srs mode” I thought.
I mean I could be missing something but trukks and boyz just makes boyz worse.
I like to strike a balance between efficiency and theme. The game’s just not as much fun for me if I don’t use models I like to use. I am willing to take a small hit on power for more immersion.
And Trukk Boyz have a place. Especially Skarboyz as 12 of them is actually quite good on their own in melee vs. most targets. I have tried lots of variations, and so far my favorite are Goff Skarboyz as they can actually jump out and largely on their own do some work against most non-dedicated assault units, followed by Evil Sunz shoota boyz who just fly around blasting people at stupid speed and then Bad Moons shoot boys who are slower but better at shooting.
I tried all Turkks/Battlewagons pure melee and it works well but has some big weaknesses. I find a mix of the big units and some smaller, mobile units works great.
Trukk Boyz have a place in a lot of lists, I think. It’s a case where number crunching doesn’t reveal their strengths, but they definitely have them. A mob of twelve shoota Boyz is a solid objective camper, and the trukk can drop them off and then run around messing with lines of sight, move blocking stuff, eating overwatch for other units, and generally making a nuisance of itself. It’s fast enough to get the Boyz to where they want to be in one movement phase, so even if it gets destroyed the troops are in position.
The best thing about them is how non-threatening they are, to be honest. They’re hard enough to kill that they’re rarely dangerous enough to justify the effort that could be put towards killing something scarier. So despite their fragility I find they survive surprisingly well.
The mistake a lot of people make is using them in a rush, where they’re in the opponent’s face long before anything else is and can be picked off without them sacrificing shooting at a greater threat. For moving a big bunch of Boyz to the enemy lines, yeah, I agree, not the best plan typically. But they have a lot of value outside of that, and they’re cheap enough that you don’t feel it too bad if they die. Most of my index lists had two trukk mobs in them, and with the points drop and kulturs I don’t see that changing.
lol, right?! How dare you play models you like to play?! =P
F-f-f-fun? What it this new concept you speak of?
What is the renaissance person award? How does one achieve it?
It is what used to be called best overall. It’s a combination of painting and playing, equally waited. To win it you have to have a very good looking army AND win most of your games (or all of them in Cooper’s case).
