- Kill Team is causing excitement! it looks like a fun and easy way to get a game of 40k style fun in, and an even better way to introduce new players to the hobby. Plus, the new terrain looks fantastic.
- Speaking of terrain, we’re well under way with updating and making new terrain for the SoCal Open and LVO. In the process of updating all of our older GW ruins, we snapped a few pics to show the scope of the project as it is a HUGE endeavor. With over 1,000 unique 40k players coming to the LVO, not to mention all of the other games, we have hundreds of tables of terrain to make and it will be a massive job to get it done but it will look amazing when done!
- Frankie and Reece are getting ready to head to the American Team Championships this weekend. The ATC consists of 5 person teams, each playing individual games and the team who wins the most combined, wins the round.
- We’re also soliciting feedback on the ITC Champion’s Missions. If you’d like to give us your feedback, please do. Click here to fill out the survey. The feedback so far has been very interesting and it will help us to update the missions after BAO to better reflect what the ITC community want.

Holy crap. Majors ahoy?
I know, right?! So many of them this weekend.
Maybe Reaper could just be 11 or more models??
We’re thinking we will probably go with number of total models killed.
I feel like that’s the better option; it makes it pretty much impossible to game it while still fitting with the overall goal.
Oh and you say the game is just shooting and moving. Ok, so why are there so much more killing secondaries? Shouldn’t they be equal-ish?
Because far more of the Primaries are based on positioning. The bias in Secondaries towards killing stuff is to balance that back out.
Huh?
Primaries are:
kill, kill more
hold, hold more
So equal. If you mean bonus points – well most of the time no one gets them anyway. While you get secondaries every game.
Would have to agree here- the primary is evenly split between killing and positioning; the secondaries are not, not even close. I don’t think that the split necessarily needs to be perfectly even, but there is a clear bias in favor of killing and I think it’s to a degree that is unwarranted.
We know the Earth isn’t flat. If it was, Cats would have push everything over the edge.
lol
An idea to combat soup.
Drop the +1 for finishing deployment first, and instead give a bonus equal to the number of factions, after the first, your opponent has. Thus if I have one faction, but my opponent has three. I would receive a +2 to my roll for first turn.
I mean, the real way to combat soup is to disallow it. Half-measures (like the beta FAQ) don’t really do anything to stop it, because almost nothing you do will be strong enough to disincentivize people from taking advantage of the huge boost in flexibility and power in a list that bringing allies gives you.
Previously it seemed to me that the main problem was the ‘1 HQ + 3 of X’ detachments. They make it far too easy to splash in exactly what you want. If you had to use patrols or battalions it would incur a much greater investment in things that aren’t the one unit you wanted to splash in.
This is still true, but Guard battalions are a key important exception. Taking a battalion of Guard involves no unwanted expenditure, it’s all really useful to the armies that can take it.
It seems silly to disallow perfectly reasonable alliances, Imperial forces of all kinds almost always have Guard support for the exact reasons so many people take them, bodies and a stable base. At the same time though we’re talking competitive play so lore generally goes out the window anyway.
But you have factions like Drukhari who are strong even without allies, so then how do you justify taking allies away from everyone else? Maybe just nerf the CP-farm aspect of Guard so they can still be used for their numbers and establishment?
Secondary Ideas:
Metal Boxes – Score one point for each ten wounds you remove from your opponent’s dedicated transports.
Break Their Backs – Score a point for each squad that loses its last model by failing a morale check.
Battle of the Minds – Score a point for each psychic power your units deny.

No offense, but those are all pretty bad. The BTB is pretty much impossible to ever max out on because of how unreliable it is and how rare losing the last model to morale is, whereas the other two are just a guaranteed 4pts against any list they are applicable against, with virtually no effort required.
