GW Grognard: I’ll do it (Tournament Prep) later

Hey everyone! Adam, from TFG Radio, here again to show you how to do it right, just not right now.

I’ll finish this course eventually

As readers know, I enjoy attending and playing in tournaments. Although my glory days are long done, I still try to bring a competitive list even if I limit myself. I tend to make a lot of lists before deciding on what list to take. I am going to the Boise Cup Grand Tournament and have a a week to get the army ready, at the time of this article. The issue is that I only have half of my army ready, and that’s okay.

This is how I imagine I look when getting the army ready

Now, I am a chronic procrastinator. I always put off army projects, especially painting.  I am always tinkering my list. I’ve known about the Boise Cup GT for at least a few months. I knew I wanted to take Chaos. Once the big FAQ came out, I did have to make some changes to my list. I was all set to go. Then one of my teammates suggest a skewed chaos list just to use certain models. I was sold. All this was still a month away, so plenty of time, right?

So with a week to go I have 18, 28mm models and a large vehicle to build and paint. Where did all the time go? Well it went to work, I work almost 6 days a week, for sure. Some goes to podcasting and prepping for the show. Most of the time mainly went to my other big time waster, video games. Specifically PUBg, right now.

How my wife sees me when I’m getting armies ready.

Video games are my other love. Before I’ve even started collecting Games Workshop games, I was playing video games. I was even making my own on my Commodore 64. It’s so easy to just turn the console on and start playing. This is one of the reasons that I play in tournaments. Back in the day, when GW ran the tournaments, they required that the army be painted otherwise you were not allowed to participate in the tournament. This forces me to buckle down and get models put together and painted. It really is the only way I get things done. Even doing the store league doesn’t motivate me to get an army ready as it currently doesn’t require painting. In the end I  somehow get the army ready in time. A lot of time it takes an all nighter .to get ready but it gets done.

Every time I try to get things done early, I get distracted and the next thing I know, It’s tournament time. To this day, 20+ years on, I still struggle to get stuff done. I’ve tried a number of things, 1 hour a night, painting a smaller model count army, but none of it seems to work. Hopefully, I can figure something out that could help me have my armies ready with plenty of time to rest. I hope you guys are much better at this than me.

That’s all for this week, I hope you enjoyed the read. Let me know your thoughts, and if you have any tips and tricks for getting your army ready for a tournament, in the comments section.
