  1. I feel like the patrol detachment thing was about how good or whatever it was and more confusion over how it interacted with the detachment limit.

  2. I had an idea about the issue with patrol detachments and the ITC cap of three. I am a hobby player all the way, but I love list building, and let that dictate what I’m making and converting. I love DE, and the 6 patrols of different Kabals and Cults is absolutely the kind of thing that get me excited about updating my army for an edition.

Now with the hobby track, I have another reason to go to events. But I would be disappointed to not be able to bring an army I painted to fit into the army structure that the Codex guided me to.

A simple fix occurred to me though. Have a Patrol count as half a detachment. You’re not making a special rule for Dark Eldar that way. It also solves another pet-peeve of mine, Chaos Demons can now bring all 4 gods, and get the rules they are supposed to.

You keep saying that those of us who mostly hobby don’t care about winning. That true for some, but not all. But no one don’t wants to get merc’ed because their Chaos army sporting all four gods only gets Loci for two, because we had to jam the other two into the same detachment.

    1. Well, just for the record, there is no ITC cap of 3, we are just playing out of the book which tells us 3 detachments at 2,000pts.

Glad you are excited but again, please wait to see the codex, play some games and then decide how you feel about it.

There seems to be a lot of buck shifting on this issue. When this was previewed I was excited, but others said it’s useless because it won’t be allowed in tournaments. 3 detachments only, and often no duplicates. So I’ve been trying to pin down where this hard rule come from.

You say it’s from the BRB, but the book itself says it is a “suggestion”, and we should feel free to modify it to our own needs. GW’s community guys say it’s down to TOs, and a lot of TOs take their lead from you guys as they are running ITC missions. So we’ve come full circle it seems, and we don’t have a clear answer as to why people think this rule isn’t so firmly set. It’s just group think.

Therefore, as much as you say the ITC is open and flexible, and not dictated from the top by you guys, I think many players and TOs are looking to you for leadership on this issue.

From my point of view (admittedly as a DE player), there is no reason anyone has to stick to this rule. In fact it’s so open it allows almost anything you want anyway. But it does limit DE exclusively now because of their force organisation.

So my solution would be this: 3 detachment limit stays, but if your ITC faction is Drukhari, you may have 3 patrols instead of 1 detachment, or 6 patrols instead of 2 detachments. The patrols must only be Drukhari faction.

I realise more will be clear when the book is released, but with everyone shifting th buck, I think you guys could show some leadership, and put your solution out there. People can then take it or leave it as they please.

    1. I understand where you are coming from and you make valid points but again, as I have been telling everyone who raises this issue, please wait till you have the dex in hand, play a few games with it and then let’s talk.

So much of this comes as a result of the way GW described it in their article. Just try it out for a while before asking for sweeping changes, exceptions, etc. There’s no buck being passed. It’s just WAY too early to be making calls like this. Let’s all give it some time first.
