Captain A Returns to LVO!

Ah Vegas… filled with stucco, tears, plaster, gambled money, lost dreams, desert heat, many half remembered mistakes, and home of the largest 40k event in the world, the Las Vegas Open!!!

The LVO has been a roller coaster of a time for myself personally, I skipped last year and watched via Twitch as the results unfolded, the year before I went 0-3 day one and climbed into a buffet of tears, and the year before that went top 8 and lost round 1 to Nick Rose. What an adventure.

But there is something about the LVO that keeps calling back to me, keeps pulling me back, and this year I’ve succumbed to the calling, like a daemonette succubus siren singing me to destruction, I, Captain A, am headed back to Las Vegas in a few short days for LVO.

A CSM Life For Me

I haven’t always been a CSM/Daemons fan. I started with Eldar, but when the new kits came out way back in the day and I won a local RTT and got a battleforce, I picked the new CSM kit. It was loaded with cool models and I started a Black Legion force. I had a custom Slaanesh Sorcerer, Khorne Berzerkers, and some scratch built Obliterators made from Ork Mega Nob bodies that I had gotten in a trade. I had actually worked towards making 9 of them cause that was the hotness at the time and I’m glad I did because they are the hotness nowadays as well.

In working on my list over the past few months, I’ve concocted a Stag theme that coincides with my Lords of the Musk Slaanesh Daemon’s army. I love goats, I cannot deny. So I continued with that theme for my CSM army. I had a vision of goat soldiers coming through the mist of a forest or swamp and tried to bring that to reality. One way I did that was some cool Profane Creations Bijou Wetland swamp bases that have space for water effects. They came out really cool and now my models are doubly secure with glue and resin holding them in place.

Most of the things in my army are converted which is always a fun thing for me. My 60 Cultists are made from Ungor bodies, Mantic Coorporation arms for the autoguns, and various pistols to be my autopistols. Scatter in a smattering of Maruader heads and it mixes them up a bit. I also found a use for my Adepticon flamer beastmen that my buddy got me years ago.

As stated before the Obliterators are also all converted and I’m pleased with how they came out. They even have various pet names such as Pizza Face, Tentaclly, and Bob. They’re so cute!

My Noise marines are also a conversion that I started years ago. Some are kitbashed from old chaos legs and the sonic blasters are made from bolters with the dragon head bits from the CSM vehicle sprue. The Blastmasters are also kitbashed with guitar wires, bits, and rods to give them a larger and bulikier feel. Gor heads round them out and I really like how they look now.

I also had some Berzerkers with Gor heads, but the new Bloodletter bomb has caught my heart so I couldn’t say no. They have horns at least right?

Finish everything off with some artwork from Goatboy and you have an army!

Playtesting

I’ve been tweaking and playtesting for months now, working hard to be speedy, and was very pleased with my 15 minute rounds at a recent 3 round RTT, coming in second with two wins and a draw. I’ve played against many kinds of list with the worst being a 22+ Reaper spam army (that is coming to LVO) and is super gross. I mostly only have a chance if I go first or they make a mistake, which is rare, so it has been good practice for Vegas.

I feel pretty confident as a whole, as long as the terrain is decent, which I hope it to be. If most of the tables look like they do in the battle reports, we will be solid. With that said, I’m only hoping for 3 wins and 3 losses this time around. Don’t want to get my hopes up too much. Especially with all the wonkiness and grossness of 8th edition. Any more than that will be icing on the cake.

Hot Times Summer In The City

Other than the 40k champs, the biggest thing I’m excited about is hanging out with friends. I have a ton of people coming from my team Chump Change, people from local Boise, friends from my old stomping ground of Portland, and other friends I’ve made all over that are going to be at Vegas. I’m super stoked to be seeing and meeting the people from all over that have contributed to my 40k experience these past years. That is going to be the best. I want to eat some good food, hang out, cut loose, and experience Vegas with friends and my wife that is tagging along and hitting up the spouse events.

Closing

So that is my Vegas plan for LVO 2018 this year. Next year I think It will mostly be Daemons as I really like the new dex. LVO is great because it closes one door and opens another for a new year of GT’s and events all around the country. Its also a time where all the Warhammer and gaming nerds and geeks come together and hang out for a weekend of revelry and comradery. It’s a great way to end the ITC year and make some memories for next time.

I’m excited for LVO and what it will bring so who’s with me! What are you excited about for LVO 2018?!?
