Hello everyone, SaltyJohn here from TFG Radio and one of your Las Vegas Open 2018 Head Judges here to bring you a quick PSA!
Ok before you freak out, because, you know, internet. This PSA isn’t about a major rules change or format change etc. Below you’ll find a video that’s a compilation of various reminders that have been made to the 40k community about the Las Vegas Open 2018 over the course of the last few weeks and months.
That wasn’t so bad now, was it? The biggest thing to be sure you do prior to arriving at the LVO 2018 is read through the Championship Missions packet! A few other notes not in the video:
- Bring your rules. This means a main Rule Book and any Indexes or Codices for units in your army. Battle Scribe is not a valid source for rules.
- Print out and bring relevant FAQs for your army, meaning all FAQs from factions found within your army.
- Don’t be late. Show up early even! There’s a lot of people to hang out with and plenty of alcohol that needs consuming, don’t be late.
- If you aren’t going to win a painting award, or if your army isn’t going to help your score towards Renaissance Man that much, skip the paint judging for the 40k Champs. The score(s) aren’t entered into your overall and in all honesty only the top tier paint jobs will have a shot at Renaissance Man and Best Painted.
- Call for a judge loudly! We may have some sort of system to get a hold of judges easier this year, but no promises on that!
- Bring glue! Your models will break at some point, especially if you’re checking your army bag.
- HAVE FUN!
Seriously on that last one ladies and gentlemen. Have fun, it’s a great time over all and getting to see a lot of my fellow 40k players who I normally can’t see any other time during the year is, in and of itself, worth the trip every time. See you in a few days!
With any luck you may just be able to fit all of the necessary FAQs, designer commentary, army construction flow-chart, Chapter approved, assorted Codexes, main rule book, an index or two and the tournament rules packet into an average size carry-on…
I guess that’s something a player might want to consider when building a list! 😉
I intend to bring my rules, glue, FAQs, etc, but I don’t think I’ll be able to have fun. Will there be a score penalty for players who don’t have fun? How will fun be graded? Is it acceptable if I have someone else who will have fun for me?
If you have no fun at all, you’re instantly disqualified. However, it is legal to use Counts As fun if you get it approved by the TO beforehand. Proxy fun, however, is not permitted.
LMAO, well done.
This thread xD
Remember to get your fun checked by friends or a fun checking group, a lot of people’s fun is spread over several fun books so honest mistakes are easy to make.
lol, love it!
Hey, I have a question about the finished bases, can you expand on what that means? Right now most of the bases for my miniatures right now are simply painted a dark green. Does this mean that black/painted bases will not be accepted? I figure it’s better to ask now and try to fix this instead of arriving at the LVO and being told my army cannot play.
If they’re all painted green consistently, that is fine.
Any word on the BCP app coming back up? The event page isn’t loading.
So just for clarity, is having ebooks on a tablet ok for rules?
Yes, ebooks are fine.
You do know that the model you have listed there as “The real FW model” is not the correct one.
The “toy” you have there as an example is being used as an alternate model for the Earthshaker Carriage Battery
https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-US/Heavy-Artillery-Carriage-with-Earth-Shaker-Cannon
And their foot print and size are the same.
The one showed as the the “Actual FW model’ doesn’t exist and FW doesn’t sell it.
The picture they showed is indeed a real FW model – the earthshaker battery, out of print yes but still having its own 8ed datasheet in the IA index. It is also the datasheet typically used in 8ed over the carriage because it is generally superior. And yet people were not modifying it to actually look like the battery or take up the same footprint as the battery.
The current model listed in the FW website as Earthshaker battery have nowhere near the footprint that the one shown on the video has.
Cant base conversions on a model thats not made anymore, and has been replaced by another model, otherwise people would be making conversion of Ork Truks based on the tiny model used back in 5th.
It’s not replaced there’s two datasheets in IA one for the carriage which they still make and one for the model they showed in the video. And you absolutely can base a conversion for a datasheet that is no longer in print on the original model…as long as the TO allows it. Otherwise hope you can find the original model on eBay.
So if use the Earthshaker carriage is that count as ok? As it fits the dimensions. Or is it we are just banning the non GW model?
What media coverage will there be for the LVO for those who can’t attend to get a bit of the action?
