Malign Portents Revealed

GW has revealed quite a bit more information about the Malign Portents for Age of Sigmar, and what it actually is. Read on to find out!

So as you can see in the above video, the Malign Portents is a new story arc for Age of Sigmar that will seem to aim to flesh out the realms a bit to give us some hard info on what they’re really like. The focus is on Death at first as Nagash has been plotting and scheming while the forces of Order have been battling with Chaos.

There are going to be some stories to create the feel of the realms, some new rules and characters for actual game play and of course, new models, too. It looks pretty cool as the story of Age of Sigmar has been pretty much all at 30,000 feet above the realms, dealing with big picture stuff. I am looking forward to learning more about what’s actually going on in the realms and what they are, etc. Watch the video below featuring Phil Kelly (aka: Street Fighter II hustler!) and it gives you a pretty clear idea of what’s going on.

To that end, they define some of the realms as nearly enormous, mystical places with more order in parts and more raw magic in others. Each of the realms has a theme of sorts which defines what it is like. They also give a history of the Age of Sigmar universe, from the Age of Myth through the Age of Chaos to where we are now: the Age of Sigmar.

We also get a little bio on the 4 characters in this story arc:

VORRUS STARSTRIKE

Striding to battle in sigmarite armour, the Lord-Ordinator wields hammers that strike with thunderclap force. It is these warriors’ solemn duty to read the stars above, using the truths they find there to engineer the fates of the Free People upon the battlefield.

MARAKARR BLOOD-SKY

She has sworn dread pacts with Chaos that she will bring carnage to the Mortal Realms, and her kin obey her without question. All who stand in her way will face her wrath.

SNAZZGAR STINKMULLETT

Cackling and frothing at the mouth, the Fungoid Cave-Shaman leads his green-skinned brethren from amidst a cloud of toxic spores.

KELDREK

The Knight of Shrouds is a traitor to his own kin, a turncoat who was called to rule in Nagash’s hellish dystopia rather than serve in Sigmar’s heaven-sent armies.

I feel like I know have a much better understanding of what the Malign Portents AoS supplement actually is, it was a bit unclear before. It looks cool, we’ve been talking about it here in the office and really look forward to getting a more concrete idea of what the AoS landscape looks and feels like and seeing some of the new game mechanics. AoS has taken a bit of a step out of the limelight as the 40k 8th ed juggernaut rolls on and we think this will be a shot of life into the AoS community.

What do you all think about the Malign Portents?
