News
- 30k fans: the Horus Heresy Age of Darkness rule book is on the way:
- The Age of Sigmar world seems to have some bad news inbound. The Malign Portents, the field, icon and ship, are spelling turmoil ahead as the success of the forces of order in claiming areas for their people to live and prosper is not in jeopardy. What will happen? Not certain.
- We had a few slots open up for the LVO 40k Champs, and for the LVO 40k Friendly. If you want to join in on these awesome events, jump in and grab them. Most of them are already gone, so act quickly.
- Also, if you want to stay in the hotel, please book your room, soon. Our room block rate expires right before Christmas, so please book soon if you have not done so.
- We made one, small, final update on the ITC Champion’s Missions based on a high volume of feedback. The Gangbusters Secondary mission was modified to only apply to units of 3 wound or greater models.
- GW announced the beta Psychic Focus and Targetting Characters rules on the Community page. These will be in effect at the LVO (as they stated in their article) and Adepticon. Please be aware of this. Also, the Daemon codex is inbound, and we will be using it, and any FAQ associated with it, at the LVO. If you play Chaos and use Daemons, prepare yourself for potential changes. As we’ve stated, we are cutting off new material for the LVO at a week prior to the event.
- If you wanted to take any of the classes with Angel Giraldez, they’re about to sell out to please grab them sooner than later.
- We also wanted to give a special shout out to Scott Devall, who can’t make it to the LVO but wanted to donate his ticket to someone that couldn’t afford to go. An extremely generous gesture.
- The Frontline Gaming Australia web-cart is up and running! If you wanted to grab an FLG Mat or ITC Terrain, head over and check it out as you will save a ton of money on shipping as it is coming from the Gold Coast as opposed to the West Coast of the USA.
- Some of you may already be following the Primaris Marine Project where we build an all Primaris Marine army and see how good or not it actually is in a competitive setting. We’ll also be showing off the new “Tournament Standard” paint level from the FLG Paint Studio.
- According to popular vote, the armies everyone wants to see in action first are:
- Blood Angels
- Ultramarines
- Ravenguard

- Pablo and Val Heffelfinger crunched some data from the BCP database about ITC participation over the 2017 season. Check out the last Chapter Tactics podcast for a break-down, but we wanted to take a look at some very interesting numbers.
- ITC Participation is way up.
- 2016 Season: 5,575
- 2017 Season to date: 6,333
- Participation is up 14% and the season isn’t even over yet.
- What is really interesting though is not just the growth, but the dramatic increase in the number of attendees going to lots of events.
- The number of ITC attendees going to 3 events in a season went up 58%
- The number of attendees going to 4 events went up 84%
- The average size of ITC tournaments is over 20. Participation brings more folks to events, so there is a real benefit for having your local events join in the circuit.
- Faction usage in 8th ed has been interesting.
- Forge World army usage fell significantly, but generally more factions are being played competitively than in 7th ed.
- Out of 7,187 recorded 8th ed games in the ITC:
- The general best performers in regards to top place finishes in events so far in 8th ed have been:
- Chaos Space Marines
- Astra Militarum
- Adeptus Astartes
- The best performing Xenos army so far:
- Orks!
- Average ITC points earned by faction. So, bear in mind, some of these are outliers as they haven’t been played enough times for a significant amount of data.

- What will be really cool is to see the data for the 2018 season as it will be 8th the entire time and many more factions will have their codexes. This is some fun information and we’re working on a much more thorough analysis, really drilling down in to this information. Stay tuned for that!
Upcoming ITC Events
We actually have an ITC event this weekend, some hard-cores up in Alaska!

Completed Commissions
- Some beautiful commissions recently completed by the FLG Paint Studio.
Interesting that Orks are sitting at best performing Xenos faction. I’m sure that will shift given more time with the Eldar and Tyranid codexes. Those haven’t been out long enough to shift the numbers, I think.
Yeah, for sure. Orks are great though, they have some real strengths in this edition. But, Tyranids and CWE are powerhouse armies, IMO. They are going to quickly rise up in the rankings.
Yeah, and GSC is the top Xenos army in the ITC points table. Weird, hey?
It most likely means that a small number of good players were using them and thus got a slightly skewed ranking because of a small sample set.
reeeeece
You said we’d find out soon why some factions got nothing, or very minimal, in Chapter Approved. It has been like a month almost. Man, hope we find out more soon.
Ah, well, I figured folks would connect the dots based on what it said in CA. Unfortunately I cannot elaborate but I think it will become self-evident here fairly soonish? I can’t spill the beans though, sorry.
I’m pretty sure most people get what you’re hinting, it is just impatience waiting for GW to make it official.
I wonder if it’ll be revealed before the year’s end, reveal not release mind you.
Well, there will be a big info session at the LVO and I bet a lot of cool stuff is revealed there. I know that’s a month away, but it should contain a lot of these answers.
GW in Nottingham shut down at 12:00 GMT yesterday.
Any News for 2017 has been released on the warhammer community pages. So only the Horus Heresy book is being released.
Next show is January 3rd so we’ll start hearing more news after that.
Chaos reign supreme!
Nooooooooooooo lol
I think CSM are incredibly strong. They have the best stratagems, amazing psychic powers, hard hitting units and cheap chaff units. That book has everything you could want for sure.
It will be very interesting to see the stats next year when all codexes have been out for at least 6 months and two big FAQs have been increased. It should be possible to shrink the averages interval by a few points.
Oh, by the way I’m a Necron player and the struggle is for real, but I’m not crying too much about it since GW seems to have a great roadmap to fix the issues.
Yeah, the data will be so much more interesting next year, I agree! However, this is still super fun to look at.
30K was confirmed on Warhammer Tv a couple of months ago as staying with a modified 7th edition rules set. Otherwise, all of those expensive bound books would be worthless. They talked to many 30K players at tournaments etc.
GW will continue releasing novels (for background), models and some rule updates.
