Don’t forget the name bug!
So durability is Blood Angels’ weakness? Hah, weaknesses in 2017! They can just ally in and totally ignore that weakness
PJSalt
Can you guys PLEASE do some sort of personal Errata or change to the character rules.
They went from obnoxious to bullshit.
Also, it was funny seeing Salty trying to joke at T’au’s expense and seeing Reece steer it away going “oh no no, T’au players weren’t the loudest bunch”
Were you worried about another heap of people complaining that FLG has a secret anti-T’au agenda?
I can see it now. GW:
Ah yes, let’s piss off a part of our customers for no reason.
Spoilers: no, they’d never do that on purpose because they are a business, which like every business, wants to make more money than previously.
So to be perfectly clear: it is your contention that GW does, in fact, intentionally piss off some of their customers for no reason?
I think Tau players are hoping that no point adjustments means a codex soon.
Yup!
Defending all those point increases is easy when you only mention the extremely underpriced models like the Malific Lord and Aetaos. What nobody seems to be able to explain is those massive point hikes to so many of the bigger Forgeworld models, even those that few players ever used because they were never efficient in the first place.
I’d also like to hear your take on why Conscripts now cost 4 points when the Commissar change had already restored balance well enough.
Of course I don’t know the answer to all of these questions, unfortunately but, as for the FW stuff they obviously do their own thing to a certain extent. I think a lot of it was very much under-priced out the gates and so now, it feels like an over-correction to some people. I don’t really have much more useful information on that topic though, sorry.
As for Conscripts, the 4pts I totally agree is the right price point for them. I think pretty much all chaff units baring maybe Grots, should be no cheaper than 4pts per model. Cultists, Termagants, Conscripts, etc. are just about perfect at 4pts, IMO. As for the Commissar nerf, I think GW was a tad heavy handed but they still function properly if you want them to with command points, Valhalla, the Commissar Tank, etc. There’s plenty of ways to keep them on the table and as such the points were too low as if you wanted them to, they still functioned essentially the same way. 4pts is just right for overall game balance, IMO.
I think the big FW stuff is priced the way it is as a way of saying it’s for Apoc only as I believe Apoc will be played via Power Level which did not change.
As a Necron, Spacewolf, Imperial Knights, Sisters of Battle, Harlequin, Deathwatch player I would say we are better than what we had in the index.
I understand those that are upset with point increases but IMO i think its better in the long run that GW is adjusting points and once again IMO i feel that the majority of the point increases i saw there is a justification for it.
Yeah, not everyone is going to like it all, and some of it stings for sure. Apparently, some players are really pissed about their stratagem, lol, but hey, largely this is what we’ve always asked for: GW is fine tuning the game.
IMO 3 Knights armies are back in the thick of it!
there is a designer note that says if you take a super heavy detachment that is all comprised of questor mechanicis or imperialist then you can pick one model gets the character keyword, and so can be your warlord and be equipped with a relic…..wow that is super strong!
now it may need clarification since its a designer’s note but that makes 3 imperial knight armies so much stronger! the fact that you can have one of your knights not even get targeted unless its the closest model is awesome for knight players- even as a knight player it maybe too good with the changes to how characters get targeted…
Don’t think it gets around the 10 wounds limitation on not being targeted, but still a nice boost!
ha ha phew thanks for that refresher ha ha
got too excited there for a min.
like you guys said in a podcast if it seems too good it probably is ha ha
I’m sad the rumor about one codex per detachment didn’t turn out to be true, but thrilled with the new tau stratagem!
Still, I did think GW would do a bit more to fix known issues like smite spam and character shenanigans.
Well, as for ad mech players, we are salty because we really counted for more as our codex is objectively worst one so far, and this was one of few chances to make it better. Although we would rather like to get rules/stats changes so our units had bigger diversity in roles, we know that isn’t very likely until new codex, so we wanted at least bringing most of our units into line with rest. Personally id like to had to make choice to what to bring to the table, and answer should not be obvious. Now it is. This imbalance/errors make so for example that I can’t really bring anything but Mars, Stygies and maybe Lucius, or I will get my ass handed to me. In casual games. Not competitive games, casual one where my friends bring non optimized, funky lists.
Seriously, if ruststalkers didn’t get any special rule, they are worth half of their price, kataphrons are still overpriced, Ironstriders are okay, but they compete with Robots and Crawlers, and that isn’t mach they gonna win without special rules or at least drop in cost. Another one in just one word. Servitors. We don’t have many units, so id like each of them to have niche. Now they overlap to much.
And that are just units, and we also have problem with relics. Dos of them are meh, but we also don’t really have characters to whom we would like to give them. I’d love to have customizable TPD, so I could chose auras that i pay for. Or at least 2 more hq that would get me different things.
Changes in troop cost are nice, as few others are, but it still feels like getting band aid on a knife stab wound.
I am still currently listening to the podcast as i am typing this, but i am hoping i can shed some light as to what i personally dont like about the points changes in chapter approved. Lets take my Death Guard army as an example.
Some point changes were great. Detahshroud, Tallyman, Plaguemarines and the blightbringer all down in points awesome, they needed that! Some weapon point adjustments awesome, nothing too major but it helps out occasionally.
So far so good, but thats where we suddenly get to an area where suddenly i eitehr do not understand 40k as well as i think i do, or some very weird decisions are being made.
Plagueburst crawler down in points, it was already one of the absolute best tanks in the game. I am a DG player with some of these tanks so hooray for me, but its just… a very odd decision.
Then we get to FW units. I have a Hellforged Cerberus Heavy Destroyer built and painted up because it looks cool and i wanted to add it to my collection. Pretty much got it for the occasional apocalypse game. Its really not good at all and Mortarion or a Renegade knight straight up are massively better in pretty much every way. Yet somehow this massively went up. I dont care ebcause for apo games we use power levels and i wasnt using it in the first place, but once again it seems like a strange decision to add a whole lot of points to something that wasnt seeing play in the first place.
Hellforged contemptor dreadnought. This and my Leviathan were my only two FW DG models that saw play and they made it better. Hooray for me but again its an option that i thought already was good getting better.
Greater blight drone. I have one converted and painted up, its awesome. I have six regular GW foetid bloat drones and then this one all converted and nurgled up from a FW Vulturax model to lead them, i call him Pappa Drone! Ruleswise he is less tough than a GW drone, straight up does way less damage and costs a lot more points. I have had it because pappa drone is awesome and he looks neat in my display case, but he really does suck balls. Chapter approved made him even more expensive points wise. Again a bad unit i was not taking just getting even worse, I dont mind because i wasnt taking him to begin with so the situation doesnt change for me, it just seems very arbitrary.
Chaos Xiphon Interceptor. I have one lying around waiting to be painted, i think its one of the prettiest flyers within 40k. Would i have taken it to a tournament? Dont think so. Its pretty alright, seems like fun to bring to my local store etc but nothing special. Up in points again.
Malefic lords. I had a set of original FW ones and kept it at that, never went to spamming 14 in an army. Fair enough they should go up in price i have no problem with that. Now they are 80 points which seems very strange compared to a primaris psyker or what other HQ’s i could get for 80 points. A herald of nurgle would be straight up better, cheaper and still be able to smite as well for instance.
So overall this is a large piece of text i know. My point is these changes have been overall positive to my army (mainly the crawler points reduction). I however still am not a fan of the changes because many of them are strange and seem very arbitrary. Units that were good got even better, units that were bad got even worse. And thats the problem i have with this years issue of chapter approved. Why go and up the points on a random cerberus heavy destroyer that saw no use anyway and leave Mortarion, Magnus and most importantly Guilliman alone? (And no +25pts on Guilliman doesnt change anything). It changes some stuff but it is hardly balancing the army.
I also believe that many problematic units should have some rules/text reworked instead of only points changes. Bobby G needs a ruleschange, not a meagre points increase. Brimstones need their invuln save changed, not a points increase on blues. And yes this is coming from some guy on the sidelines and not a developer who is paid to think about these things (and i am sure they are intelligent). But it is very hard to accept seemingly random changes without any context of what the rationale behind them was.
My thinking exactly. Nice to see GW trying. Very worrying to them failing very badly in more than one instance
Bought the new Ork bundle to have another army to be salty about.
Pretty much 90+ boyz or bust. Got told that and saw that in pretty much every tournament. Batallion is basically mandatory. And when the choices are Boyz or Gretchins(complete trash)…
At least you will still get a codex that may change a lot 🙂
I hope so. Seriously, you look at tyranids – 5 competitive(ish at least) troop options. Orks have 1. Some elites/etc should be moved to troops…
Why are gretchin so bad? They are basically 3 pt chaff, who can get quasi fearless from a ~70 pt warboss.
I’ve seen a couple of lists use two giant squads of them.
Certainly the Orks don’t have troops near as good as Nid’s though, but Nids are blessed with some useful troops.
It’s because Gretchin have basically the same survivability(barelly better against some weapons) as Ork Boyz, but ork boyz COMPLETELLY destroy gretchins in terms of offence.
Apologies if this had been answered in here or elsewhere (I’ve been traveling for work), but what is the precise wording of the SW “Hunt” stratagem and is it one unit only?
The character rule is a major problem. seriously.
Yeah, as it stands now it is certainly a bit of an interesting choice, and can create some really unfunny situations.
Was Rhino sniping even that big of an issue? To warrant such ridiculous changes, I mean now Guilliman can waltz up the field cause a conscript is closer. Can’t see the conscript, he’s holed up somewhere and makes a literal demigod untouchable
I’ve been thinking about it, and the only solution I’ve thought of that would cover both issues is to make it so the models have to actually be positioned *between* the character and firer, not just closer. Just like how screening units granting cover to units behind them used to work.
Please have someone take a look at the new character rule!!! Beyond the competitive implications, the game mechanic is horrible and it completely ruins the narrative for many users. The problem comes up when later in the game when you don’t have the deep strikers, flyers or indirect fire available to deal with hidden units. In my last battle, when we were trying the new rule, my opponent had 3 tanks left and I had to explain to him that he couldn’t fire at my characters who had exposed themselves to fire at his tanks because there was a group of rangers closer to him behind a building that he couldn’t see. In the remaining 2 rounds, he would be unable to move into position to deal with the rangers or get close enough to the characters to target them so he had lost the battle.
Question for you: Great tactical maneuvering or abuse of a poorly thought out rule?
It was good maneuvering on your part and not abusing it but the rule itself is now stupid. At least you can stilll assault both with infantry
Is the power level ban gone? Now that chapter approved is out? Like my army could be just a warhound scout titan?
