  1. Cant make it to LVO but Im predicting AL spending all their CP turn 1 with the berserkers, cultists, exalted champion and dark apostle. As long as they are the same legion, no marks required to reroll all hits and wounds. Also since they are characters, summon in some daemons!

Giving both of mine slaanesh because I also use a herald on steed and AL slaanesh prince to make them str 4 and up to 91 attacks rerolling 1s all slaanesh units woth 6” of the prince.

A mix of nurgle objective holders, elite khorne units, tzeentch obliterators with changeling, and slaanesh cultists with daemon summoning points all up in your face turn 1 could give the top shooty Imperium players some serious problems. Cultists mobs overruning objectives also with sheer numbers lol.

Updated Xenos could pull an upset and make up over 1/2 of the top tier and have potential to win it.

    1. I would like to see Tyranids win, I am fairly convinced they are a top tier army as it stands but Blood Angels do have me worried a bit.

This of course begs the power creep question as we have still quite a few more codexes to go, not to mention whispers of more primarchs. I have a distinct feeling that GW may have blown their chapter approved load a little early…

        1. But can you build a TAC list that deals with the extremes of the meta… and what insanity will daemons bring, lol!

Fun time fir the hobby- before Tau drops and makes all other armies obsolete 😉

          1. We can only hope – FOR THE GREATER GOOD!!

But seriously, I agree that this is prime 40k time. The last two codexes were excellent. Powerful but balanced and with many different build types. Add in the work the ITC guys do to make fun, balanced missions and we have the golden age of Warhammer.

      1. They absolutely do.

        Cheap screen bodies – Check
Hard hitting close combat units that are also fast – Check
        Great shooting – Check
        Mobility – Check
Tools to deal with Psykers – Check

Nids have answers for anything. A veritable toolbox of options to choose from in the codex. They are instantly top tier IMO.

        1. Jack of all trades, master of none. Those actually do not win that often. There’s usually one “trade” that is more important. In this case, it’s shooting.

          1. Going all in on one thing can leave you open to a good counter list though, and in a high stakes, multiple round tournament that’s not unlikely.

In fact I’d argue that Nids are the counter shoot heavy meta army right now, with easy access to -1 to hit, speed, the ability to be surprisingly tough and ample ways to start off the board I think they could surprise some of the current ‘standard’ lists.

Assuming the meta doesn’t shift by the LVO of course, if Blood Angels and Daemons make a splash, fast hard hitting combat could become the norm.

(All just my conjecture obviously, won’t see who’s right and wrong till the event 🙂 )

          2. Jack of all trades?

Im not sure that metaphor captures what the Nids are capable of. The power of the dex isnt obvious – the power is in the strategic flexibility and synergy of units and abilities working in conjunction with one another and how and when they are applied. Think of it like nitrous oxide on a sports car, it’s not always on but if you hit it at the right time…the results can be devastating for your opponents. With the right General the nids have all the tools to win.

  2. My predictions:
We won’t see a non-soup list in top 8(ignoring armies without access to soup).
The meta will still be spam of a bunch of tiny dudes and anti-horde weapons.
The only successful superheavy lists will be 3 superheavy lists.
Pure AdMech still won’t make top 50. Soup Admech won’t make top 24.
And the most outragious prediction: Actual Chaos Daemon armies will still be unplayable. It’s a blind guess because we don’t know anything about the codex.

I might be wrong on some or even all of them. We’ll see.

  3. My prediction: an army with a codex will win. An army only running things from an index will not make top 8.

And yes, I made my prediction purposefully generic, so it’s less likely that I’ll be wrong. 😛

    1. im not sure if an army w/o a codex cant win, i think about 3 superhaevy (knight+morty+magnus) and some random stuff, like brimstones+PD from demon index, they have the tools to win also without a codex

      1. Good point. I always forget about the Knight, Mangus, Mortarion lists because I never see that combo in my area. Although Morty does have a codex, and the daemon codex is coming in January, likely before LVO. So technically, it’s not a pure index list. There is some codex stuff in there. I was mostly talking about pure index when I said I didn’t think they would make the top 8. A mix of index and codex could do it though.

    1. Yeah that’ll be super interesting. Particularly as from what I’ve seen AoS competitive meta is very up in the air at the moment (though I could just be missing things 😛 )

      1. It is a bit. There are armies that are consistently in the top spots – Tzeentch, Stormcast, Kharadron, Fyreslayers, Seraphon, right now. But honestly there are other armies that have been breaking in with regularity, especially in the hands of good players. I’ve seen some great Mortal Chaos forces, Sylvaneth is still popping up, Death still has some teeth, Ironjawz and Khorne have some really strong matchups, Skaven are quite good in the right hands, etc. I’m really expecting to see a great variety!
