We’ve got new Chaos vs. new Grey Knights in tonight’s Monday Night Fight! Join us at 5pm PST on our Twitch channel.
- Reece’s chaos army: (Turns out Reecius’ list might be illegal, too! It appears you can no longer take Berzerkers as troops in the Codex for World Eaters.).

No Grand Master Dreadknight? Aww..
Yeah, the Salty Banana wanted to use what he was accustomed to.
That is the new unit I am looking forward to most! I have found myself taking cheaper HQs just to afford more weapons on my NDK – and now I don’t have to! Just a pity that one HQ is apparently not in the codex (Brotherhood Champion I believe) 🙁
Using the new Codexes?
Yup =)
What in the list is illegal?
Battalions require two HQs
So in the battalion attachment its a chaos index army and the patrol detachment is the new Chaos heretics? Or is it still legal to include chaos dameons, you just dont get the faction specific bonus? Cant wait for the codex release!!!
The core army building mechanics haven’t changed. You can still fill a detachment with “Chaos” regardless of what books you are drawing it from. So Heretic Astartes with Daemons is valid.
You just don’t get all the cool new bonuses from the codex. For example, you won’t get your legion tactic bonuses unless the entire detachment has the _Legion_ keyword.
That is correct, buddy.
Nice! Ill definitely keep that in mind with new changes in points.
Oh boy. Dare I watch yet another tabling or will IG save the day?
..my god.
Is there actually a worse unit in this game then gk terminators for what it costs?
Can we who spent hundreds of hours painting up a ton of them hope GW will shave of some s e r i o u s points from them in a year or two? They are by now embarrassingly bad.
(tough luck to the snowflakes who whine about me pointing out the mistakes and bad things so often but someone gotta do the obvious since nobody wants their models collecting dust a whole edition so suck it up)
I´m curious.
Any idea about how that yearly balancing/points change is going to work? It would be fun to know more about that, are geedub going to look at tournament results and then adjust things toward making never seen units more viable and vice versa for things everyone always take or how is this going to work?
Are they going to listen to recommendations from frontline playtesters?
I wonder about the reasoning behind actually point hiking such a bad unit from ind1 to codex GK, its like watching a rerun of the way riptides got made BETTER from already being op contrary to all common sense.
If I had to wager a guess here – Chapter Approved (announced for December I believe) will be the rebalance to the first 10 books.
I’d also guess that the GK termies were upped in price due to gaining the benefit of what used to be obsec and buffs to casting/stratagems etc.
Mostly I wish they upgunned or changed up the special weapons… maybe make psycannons and the like assault rather than heavy.
Are whirlwinds not worse than GK terminators?…;)
Non-character terminators units, Deathwing knights and maybe Chaos Terminators(due to warp time) excluded, terminators sadly don’t have a place in the game, at a competitive level it would seem. Between points cost which is too high, esp in a armor modifier system, and the fact that other units fill fill the same battlefield purpose much better, there isn’t a reason to take them
Maybe but if he had shot the bezerkers and charged the gun crews they would have done much better.
Exaplain to me why you would take terminators when there are paladins instead? A completely useless unit.
Are whirlwinds infantry? I did not know this.
And I agree on terminators overall, they are to sucky to be taken in a competitive play unless there are easy to pull of combos like warptime..because everyone gets warptime..oh wait.
Just this weekend I played against GK as a combination of Tzeentch daemons/CSM. I ended up losing only because we made up our own mission to make it as hard as humanly possible on me because otherwise I would have mopped up a normal mission.
I did draw two conclusions, though: 1) automatic 3 wound mortal smite is amazingly strong. 2) If you’re going to take GK termies you might as well take paladins. He had 2 squads of Paladins and that third wound was a pain in the butt. I brought two Heldrakes and that third wound cut the number of Paladins that died in half every single turn. Plus the apothecary would just res one every turn. For not that many more points, the extra attack and wound on Paladins is way worth it.
Agreed.
I was pretty excited when I read through the GK codex leak, it seemed like they did a good job for the most part of keeping things fun and flavorful and balanced (though a couple of units, like terminators need a redo).
Then I saw some of the stuff CSM can do, and my first thought was ‘are you ****ing kidding me?’. Killed my enthusiasm.
At least it can’t be worse than 7th was.
lol, focus on what you get, buddy, not what you don’t get. GK are better than they’ve been in a long time. And I don’t think anyone wants to go back to the bad old days of 5th ed GK, lol
Funny, my apot raised one model the entire game..luck or bad luck doesnt count.
And also funny, everyone knows terminators, especially GK are shit and always go for paladins but nobody dares to voice that loudly.
Sure, smite is nice vs deamons but deamons is a minority among “all” possible armies.
Try depending on those termies and smites vs a chaos army or a plasma heavy army.
GK are better then they were in 7th sure but still far from what I we had high hopes they would be in 8th with the same old syndrome of units-never-to-be-taken.
Hey Reece would the unique World Eaters datasheet in the index that has the troop battlefield role still be usable. It is not the same as the elite version.
Good question, I will check.
