Did you miss Thursday’s game? No worries, here’s the replay!

So, I’d love to hear some thoughts from the FLG crew about Marines. The group of people I trust have been playing 8th ed now for a bit and the one army that seems to be really lackluster are the marines of all flavors.
They seem to be getting the crap kicked out of them across the board. Much like the game above. By all flavors I mean basically all the C:SM armies and BA mostly.
Like, regular space marines? Really? Hmm, I’d have to see the lists but they’re so powerful.
Well, an easy combo: Reroll to hit mechanic character, reroll wound character, company ancient to let you shoot when you die, and apothecary to bring folks back to life with a boat load of devastators and you are good to go. Scouts for screening and objectives, good to go.
That is like, one of dozens of combos. Marines have so much to offer.
I have a friend who runs black Templars with all the buff characters and he has won almost every game so far. They hit hard.
Marines have tons of reliable synergy and 2+ saves in cover really makes them tough.
BA absolutely rock. They have so many powerful buffing auras. You can run just basic dudes and turn them in to heroes with all of the various buffs you can put on them.
My friend, Brindley, has been one of the top players in South Africa for years and years and plays almost exclusively BA. He won with Battle Company Marines in 7th. He’s no slouch and he doesn’t play against slouches.
He is convinced that BA didn’t get the same love as other armies and they weren’t lifted up as much. He’s just been getting stomach punched by pretty much everything, mostly in melee.
Well, I’d have to see how he was playing but for us, we were worried they were too good. No kidding.
IMO, that list is not an 8th ed tournament list. Now, I say that not to be mean, at all, just that it has a lot of fat to cut.
BA are about speed and hitting power. I’d run with a Priest on a bike, Death Company with all power swords and jump packs, Astorath and the Sanguinor. That gets your DC up to strength 5, AP-3, 4 attacks each on the charge with rerolls. You will mince anything you hit.
Rhinos with Tac squads are not bad but won’t hang in a competitive 8th ed meta in its current state. Drop all of them and the Scouts. Run with an equal amount of points in Assault Marines who also benefit from the various buffs of the characters. They ramp up to very powerful, very quickly.
Dread is OK, I’d go with another Predator. If you can fit in 2 Preds with las cannons, helps you open up transports so your mobile assault elements can carve up the units inside.
You should be able to defeat Berzerkers as you will be charging them if you play it right, swinging first and wiping out squads.
Again, this is all theory and I’d have to see how they play but off the cuff I think the problem is the list itself.
Yeah, there are a few seriously outstanding models available to Nids in their FW index. We can’t go in to details yet, but on release day, we will. And thanks!
The malanthrope sure seems like a shadow of its former self. How does the -1 to hit models even work? Range is terrible (but so is the venomthrope’s), it’s slow, no fly keyword, looks expensive, and you will still never get to use prey adapt

Thoughts on best ways to run Marines in 8th?
What do you mean? Lack flavor in what way? Marines are awesome in 8th.

He played that against Khorne Berskers and was tabled in 3 turns.
Again, this isn’t some rook here, this is a guy that is regularly winning major events in his small country. Why is this not working?

Thanks, Reece!
Hey Reece,
just wanted to know if you also have tested the forgeworld models of nids? Are they as good as the “standard” nids and do they fit into the army?
Thanks a lot and keep on with the great work!
Greetings from Germany

Prey adaptation, sorry. Phone derped. TL:DR malanthropes look bad, wtf were they thinking.
Deepstrike and range, the book said more than 9″. Was it the intent to have 9″ and more..It’s 1″ less on charge that way.
