Today Pablo and his special guest go over the tactical merit of the Traitor’s Hate book. Does the Chaos Space Marines faction have the tools now to compete on the top tables?
Hello everyone! I am back once again for another tactical Saturday. If you don’t know yet Chapter Tactics is a 40k podcast which focuses on promoting better tactical play and situational awareness across all formats of the game. Today we are highlighting the Good, Bad, and Ugly in the new Traitor’s Hate chaos space marines supplement. We are also going to help all you imperialist hating traitors get the most out of this supplement and give you a shot at being top tier armies.
Show notes:
- I was unable to find a copy of James’ list floating around though I’m sure he can post it in the comments. Here is the list he won the Broadside Bash with.
- What are some of the Good, Bad, and Ugly things you guys see in the new book?
- Where do Chaos Space Marines stand at the competitive level in the ITC? NOVA? Your FLGS?

Do you think your list could hold up to the List Lab? Email it to…
Uh Jeffs list has 4 Black Maces in it. I’m assuming that only the Biomancy sorcerer has one?
Yeah i’d imagine. lol wish you could take that many black maces haha
Chaos, as it sits, is not ultra competitive unless you bring the Cabal (i’m not talking about KDK as they are very strong by themselves) but that being said the new chaos formations and pyschic powers really give them a lift. I’d say they are now mid tier for sure and can really put the hurt on some armies. Plus the obj secure is great and they have leadership 10 across the board in the warband. not bad imo
It would help to have a legal list for people to go off of
If you know what makes it illegal, you now have a legal list to base off. I will update the post. Thank you for the information.
Sorry about the error on the list. When I cut and pasted it from my Army Builder I ended up with a Black Mace on each sorcerer and it should only have been on the Biomancy Sorc.
No worries Jeff! Better to catch it here then to get DQed from an event. It is still a solid list.
Don’t believe the herald on juggernaut can take an icon.
Was it a locus instead?
Yeah, the Khornate icon is ‘banner of blood’ so he must mean locus of wrath.
I believe James in the podcast addresses it
Does anyone have a suggestion for this list to deal with a Culexus Assassin? Maybe summon some flesh hounds and have them go after it? or Use Shroud of Despair to have an enemy unit shoot it.
I’ve also toyed with the idea of dropping the black mace. Is it really necessary on a powered up dogstar? I could put those points into another level of mastery for my second herald and take another hound as well.
Any suggestions?
Your screamer star can auto hit it with slash attacks. You could even summon more Screamers to really put the nail in the coffin.
My suggestion is that if you are going to talk about a codex and then putout an army list, at least have the army list reflect units and formations from the codex. The army list shown has nothing to do with traitor’s hate and can barely be called a Chaos Space Marine Army
The army lists are user submitted. If you listen to the podcast James and I go over a list using the black crusade detachment.
Jeff (the list above) needed some tournament help.
I understand that(and heard it) but it still seems out of place. Right now you have 2 shows that do almost the same thing: Chapter Tactics and Signal’s Meta Busting Monday.
Both talk about the competitive builds, armies, etc. and both seem to have user submitted army lists. Sure, there are other podcasts that do the same but they aren’t on the same network.
i know it’s still early in the show’s development so I don’t expect it to be perfect from the get go. I think you need to find ways to make your podcast different from Reece and Frankie’s. Especially if it is going to be on the same network.
The Khorne Herald cannot be the warlord as he’s from an Allied detachment.
Good catch!
Question: You all said stuff that seemed to imply that the Sorcerer Cabal will be attached to the hounds? (taking the hits for the wraithknight, referring to 12 hounds + Herald as a star, etc) I thought that the sorcerer’s couldn’t join Daemons due to the Daemons rule?
The hounds are Kdk which do not have Daemonic Instability.
Question: You all seem to imply the sorcerers are attached to the hounds? I thought the Daemon Rule prevented this? I could be wrong but you spoke about having the hounds take hits for the sorcerers, referring to the hounds as a star, etc.
Could you do a show on the pre selection of psychic powers? I think for Chaos and Csm it’s the most important part of the game is selecting the tools to use.
