Hello all, Jason here to talk about the units I chose for my first 25 wound Age of Sigmar Warband, the Bloody Tip of the Spear.
For those of you who are not aware, the FLG staff have decided to jump into the Age of Sigmar head first and start a 4 month learning league. The only modification to the current 4 page ruleset is the implementation of wounds being the list building tool at least until the organized play ruleset is released this summer. You can read all about the league here. I wanted to write a little bit about the models I have chosen for my Chaos warband and some of the reasons I chose them for my first 25 wounds.
For my general there was only one real choice for my first hero model. The Mighty Lord of Khorne!
This bro clocks in at 6 wounds, which is around average for a high level hero model on foot. He has a respectable 3+ save and most importantly acts in the same way as a Wizard in that he can attempt to unbind spells, which is very important in the current unlimited summoning environment. He has a couple cool other abilities such as the instant death type of roll after wounding a model with more than 1 wound as well as ensuring a further charge range for a unit within 24″ of him.
Next up, we have a 5 man unit of Blood Warriors.
Running a Khorne themed Chaos warband, how could I resist starting with these guys? They are a bit pricey wound-wise having two a piece and since we are starting with just 25 wounds they take a large chunk of my allotment. They have a 4+ save and though they aren’t offensive monsters they come with some nifty abilities. They always get their attacks even if slain before they get the chance to strike thanks to their ‘No Respite’ ability and can cause a mortal wound to any unit in which they make an armor save with their Gorefists. Pretty brutal!
Last but not least I will be taking a mighty Khorgorath!
Well I needed a big guy that could smash stuff and let me make ‘RAAWRRGG’ sounds while playing and the Khorgorath fit the bill! He comes with a beefy 8 wounds and has both ranged and melee attacks. He comes with the ability to lower your opponent’s Bravery due to his ‘Horrific Predator’ special rule and can even heal himself while in melee combat. He’s not the fastest monster in the game but he’s sure to draw my opponent’s attention while the Blood Warriors make their way into combat.
So there you have it, my first 25 wounds for the Age of Sigmar learning league. Thoughts? What 25 wounds of Chaos would you take if it was up to you?
