Hello all, Jason here to talk about the units I chose for my first 25 wound Age of Sigmar Warband, the Bloody Tip of the Spear.
For those of you who are not aware, the FLG staff have decided to jump into the Age of Sigmar head first and start a 4 month learning league. The only modification to the current 4 page ruleset is the implementation of wounds being the list building tool at least until the organized play ruleset is released this summer. You can read all about the league here. I wanted to write a little bit about the models I have chosen for my Chaos warband and some of the reasons I chose them for my first 25 wounds.
For my general there was only one real choice for my first hero model. The Mighty Lord of Khorne!
This bro clocks in at 6 wounds, which is around average for a high level hero model on foot. He has a respectable 3+ save and most importantly acts in the same way as a Wizard in that he can attempt to unbind spells, which is very important in the current unlimited summoning environment. He has a couple cool other abilities such as the instant death type of roll after wounding a model with more than 1 wound as well as ensuring a further charge range for a unit within 24″ of him.
Next up, we have a 5 man unit of Blood Warriors.
Running a Khorne themed Chaos warband, how could I resist starting with these guys? They are a bit pricey wound-wise having two a piece and since we are starting with just 25 wounds they take a large chunk of my allotment. They have a 4+ save and though they aren’t offensive monsters they come with some nifty abilities. They always get their attacks even if slain before they get the chance to strike thanks to their ‘No Respite’ ability and can cause a mortal wound to any unit in which they make an armor save with their Gorefists. Pretty brutal!
Last but not least I will be taking a mighty Khorgorath!
Well I needed a big guy that could smash stuff and let me make ‘RAAWRRGG’ sounds while playing and the Khorgorath fit the bill! He comes with a beefy 8 wounds and has both ranged and melee attacks. He comes with the ability to lower your opponent’s Bravery due to his ‘Horrific Predator’ special rule and can even heal himself while in melee combat. He’s not the fastest monster in the game but he’s sure to draw my opponent’s attention while the Blood Warriors make their way into combat.
So there you have it, my first 25 wounds for the Age of Sigmar learning league. Thoughts? What 25 wounds of Chaos would you take if it was up to you?
Cool man happy to see you guys playing AOS
Have you guys considered using the Southcoast GT comp system?
The eventual tournament ruleset will probably be similar in some ways, considering all 3 of the TO’s worked with GW, to some degree, to create the new points system.
We did consider the different comp systems currently in place but ultimately decided just to play it out of the ruleset until the organized play ruleset comes out in the summer. For us its really about the modeling aspect and the army construction. Now, when the organized play rules come out people may start getting competitive haha.
Playing chaos, how can you resist a unit of mighty skullcrushers?
I like the lists even though I don’t like wounds as a list building tool, scgt is much nicer but hey at least you guys are playing aos 🙂 I’d add a banner into the blood-warriors as well as a greataxe on the champion the extra rend will help.
Oh definitely I’ll be upgrading some of the models in each unit.
Next I’d add bloodscreator(banner guy from starter set) and wrathmongers!
I was actually thinking the Bloodsecrator and 10 Marauder Horsemen. My third 25 I am thinking Skullreapers and a the chaos icon thing
I am starting with:
A pack of liberators
Prosecutors with shields and javelins
And a celestant prime so he can show up and just be goku and spirit bomb everyone
Dude, I have to admit. I bought a starter set for Vampire counts and some additional models…I have no idea how to play AoS but I am stoked to jump into it.
Looks like a solid start 🙂 Mighty Lord of Khorne is a beast on the table
