List Review
Primary Detachment: Formation:
I thought I read somewhere that you cannot take allies of the same book or maybe the ITC rules, but now I think I misread it. I must’ve been thinking about 5th/ 6th edition. So I can take 1 primary and 2 allied detachments, such as Chaos Daemons CAD, CSM CAD, and daemon allied detachment? Only tournaments I plan to go to are ITC so just confirming. That Ork list is solid.
You cannot take an Allied Detachment that is the same faction as your primary detachment.
But you could do like a Formation CSM that has your Warlord in it which makes it your “primary detachment” and then take a CAD Daemons and Allied Daemons. Don’t think you would ever be able to do CAD/Allied/Allied unless both allies were different factions than the CAD as the warlord needs to come from the CAD asi tcan’be be from an allied detachment.
Yes. It is quite confusing, lol.
Ah, got it now. How embarrassing would it be to show up to the BAO only to be told I had to redo the list? Thanks for the clarification. I’m thinking of putting together a Nurgle Circus to get everything painted up nicely so needed this confirmation. ?. Especially because I’m finally going to another tournament soon ?
No worries buddy, writing a list in 7th ed is pretty confusing.
A Battleforged Army is simply an army made up entirely of models that are in detachments or formations. There is literally only one restriction on that, which is an “Allied Detachment” (specifically the detachment by that name) cannot be of the same faction as your Primary Detachment (the detachment containing the warlord). It only really gets confusing when you get stuck thinking in past editions. 🙂
tyranid rumors.. my heart.., oh my god
I know, right?
Don’t get your hopes up, every edition Tyranids are _supposed_ to get tons of new and exciting things that will finally fix the codex for reals this time I mean it guys and then the release hits and oh look it’s the Maleceptor and Pyrovore.
Just keep saying “Tyranid codex is coming soon” until you’re right. That makes you a reliable source of rumors, haha.
? Games Workshop please stop breakin our hearts ?
So my interpretation of the “weak” ruling for the Tau CF will make a Drone Controller in the Combined Fire unit useless when CF’in with Drone units. Since it is a “shared” ability much like anything from the buffmander.
Yes, you shoot the Drones before the Coordinated Firepower units.
Basically, under the “weak” interpretation, shooting as a single unit is only really a disadvantage (bar the +1BS.)
Haha, in what world is having the choice of +1 BS and shared marker lights a disadvantage?
In the world where you have to shoot 600pts of units at a single Rhino.
I would say that would be a bad time to trigger the combined fire 🙂 Maybe not so bad when firing into a tough unit, deathstar, GC or Knight.. you know, those things most people are referring to when talking about when they use combined fire.
Sure, there’s situations where it’ll be useful, but a lot of the time you don’t WANT to shoot three units at one thing because Tau hit hard enough that it’s a waste to do so. Yes, it’s hyperbole to say that it’s an actual disadvantage (since you’re never forced to use it), but when it’s the only bonus that the Contingent gets base, it means there’s a lot of times (i.e. any MSU army/target) where you’re essentially taking a formation with no abilities.
Not only does a “weak” interpretation render the Hunter Contingent not worth taking it also fortifies the no-fun mono builds for Tau i.e. continue expecting shooty static gunlines + advancing Stormsurges.
What the RAW or “reasonable” interpretation does is open up Tau for new meta, drone armies, msu etc which is awesome.
in the Team Tournament, did Frankie have 2 Stormsurges? I thought these were LOW and there is a limit to one under the ITC rules?
The last iTC vote allowed for a single unit of Stormsurge for Tau.
Awesome! have not played in an ITC event, yet. Speaking of which, I’ll be heading to the 40K tournament at the LVO – could I still vote on the next ITC poll? You could cross reference my name with my LVO 40K ticket.
Yeah, we can do that.
My cup runneth over….
Now unless the new bugs get some type of rules to help them survive against Tau shenanigans, I’m afraid it will still by Codex Flyrant, Part Deus.
@Frankie: Do you have a list of your Tau army that you used in the tournament?
Hey Guys,
We play ITC rulings for our gaming club, here in Cumbria, UK, and I also pass on praise of the system to other tournies/clubs I visit which don’t use the ITC system, and are modifying the game themselves. Firstly, keep up the good work, its growing success is a credit to yourselves.
However my enthusiasm is dampened that you will need to have participated in a ITC ‘event’ to be eligible to vote for the rulings – especially as showing that the FAQ/Rulings are voted upon by the community, as the current system very quickly eliminates most worry about why the ITC rules are the way they are.
Obviously the system is intended for tournies in general, but having a system that is voted on by ‘participants’ is a great way to standardise rulings in the casual club scene – Ruling out the knee-jerk home-rules that happen because one or two players have had a poor game.
This is dampened somewhat by restricting the active participants, and unfortunately feels like the minority ‘trolls’/Troublemakers have forced your hand. The Gaming Club voters (no matter how small a demographic) will provide a moderate voice in the votes, in comparison to tournament players who will vote for what makes their lives easier. I have a feeling that the vote to continue allowing BA/SW not force Vanilla marines to lose their Chapter Tactics, is a prime example.
Hopefully some constructive criticism that you will take on board.
Cail
I was unaware that the ability to vote was changing. Considering how widespread ITC rulings are used, I’m wondering if this is for the good.
I play in events that USE ITC all the time, but don’t know that I’ve actually ever played in an ITC event (Checked the rankings, apparently I have). I’m just concerned of unintended consequences for everyone else who uses ITC if they can’t vote.
Oh well, I’ll keep voting. Will the votes still be announced or is it an e-mail type situation?
Votes will be announced. And so long as you have played in an event that reported your ITC results, you are in our database. We’re doing this to stop folks from voting multiple times or from voting that don’t actually play in the ITC.
Hey, thanks for the quick reply. I totally understand the issue of multi-voting and such. Glad to see you’re taking other folks into account!
Yeah, it’s a bit tricky, we’ll have to figure out a way to try and be inclusive without opening the door to the trolls.
I want to mirror the above post. I’m also in the UK and we use the ITC FAQ for casual games as it’s impossible to play using only what GW gives us and the ETC FAQ has got some quite weird rulings.
I always appreciated the ability to contribute to the ITC rulings and accepted the outcomes. It’s very difficult for me to play in an ITC event because there are very few here.
I understand the ITC FAQ was designed for tournament play but it has developed into something that benefits the whole 40k community. I hope that this isn’t forgotten because of a few trolls.
Very good point, and we will try to work out a compromise on this. Hmm, we will look into including people registered to our site and folks who have bought a ticket to the LVO but are not yet in the ITC.
Hey Caill, thanks for voicing your opinion on this, and you make a valid point. We will see if we can include general ITC participants, too, not just those who have gone to a tournament, but that may be difficult to do. Perhaps those registered to our site or on our mailing list? We’ll work something out.
I’ll join in as well for this. I’m on the East Coast of the US and there just aren’t many ITC events near where I live. However, I love to engage with the Frontline and ITC community and it’s the rulings I use with my friends! My plan is to attend LVO one day as well as other ITC events when I get a chance to. Hence, I want to be able to have input on something I could spend hundreds of dollars (possibly more!) on. ITC is more than just your official events, it is so much more than that! I think you really underestimate your reach and influence on 40k as seen by the people who have expressed the same thoughts as me.
I understand the difficulty of this request and ultimately will still follow along, but I do appreciate your responses to those who have spoke before me on the matter.
Cheers,
ligs
The rules for the blight bringer have been out for a while,They are in the exigence book. It’s easily the best gargantuan and has pretty ridiculous rules.
