- From the “Malifaux’s Most Wanted” podcast: Yes Wyrd models are typically not possible. So the variety in poses is somewhat limited. However there are typically 3 poses for these minion level models. At the MOST you’ll be using 3 Autopsies, more likely only 2. So the pose repetition is probably not an issue with this specific model. Thankfully too there are options for the gamer that want’s something different. The Male and Female multi-part kits from Wyrd can be used to make tournament legal proxies for models in the range which you might not care for.

Rant Session
Tactics Corner
Rules Lawyer
- King Kruel asks: Which profile do I use for the Rapier Laser Destroyer in IA13?
- Use the Laser Destroyer profile in the IA13 book, but also, email FW.
- Peter Bernier asks: Can a unit Deep Striking or Outflanking come out of the Monolith? Can they then also come out of the Monolith?
- Yes, the Monolith’s rule simply states units in reserves.
- No, the Deep Strike or Outflank action is their move action for that phase, and a disembarkation is also a move action, they cannot do both in the same turn.
- Dayone916 asks: What if any characters are allowed in the Libby Conclave? Can I add Severin lloth to it? Can I use it with the Sentinels of Terra supplement?
- Only those specified in their formation.
- No, no named character can be added to it not expressly listed on the formation.
- Yes, so long as all the Libbys have the Imperial Fists CTs, you could and then also gain access to the Bones of Ozark Relic.
- GoofyD7 asks: How does Drop Pod Assault work when you have multiple detachments with Drop Pods?
- The Drop Pod assault rule does not specify detachments, so total up all your Drop pods across all detachments, divide the number in half rounding up and that many come in turn 1.
- General: Can I take a Lucious Drop Pod for free in a Space Marine Battle Company?
- No, only the units specified in the formation can be taken for free. However, you can take the Lucious if you pay the points for it.
- zcashetta asks: What is the difference between count’as and proxy? What category do third party models fall under?
- Somewhat depends, but typically third party models are counts-as if they are a reasonable representation. For example, you are using an Tie fighter model next to a Crisis suit as a Tau Drone, that is a proxy. You are using an x-wing model next to star destroyer as a drone and crisis suit in an army that is entirely star wars themed, that is counts as. Rule of cool is the guiding principle, here.

For counts-as versus proxies:
“Counts-as” is typically regarded as referring to a converted or third-party model to stand in for something that has an existing model; for example, using a sniper model from Infinity to “count as” a Vindicare Assassin, or converting a Kroot model with a larger gun and other obvious differentiations from its original form to do the same.
A proxy model, to contrast, is an unmodified figure that is representing something that it obviously does not have the appropriate WYSIWYG equipment or other attributes for. Using a Dreadnought to stand in for a Carnifex or a bunch of IG troopers to represent Orks are examples of typical examples of proxy models.
The key differences between them are appropriateness and effort- a Dreadnought that had been given large “talon” arms and was part of an entire force of SM models converted to be used as Tyranids could easily be a case of counts-as rather than proxying; however, if you simply set down a regular Dreadnought and call it a ‘Fex, that’s another matter. Most tournaments are rather lenient in drawing the line between the two, as it’s usually obvious when someone worked hard on a project (even if they might not be the best modeler in the world and their results were subpar) as opposed to someone who simply didn’t bother.
Yeah, exactly. It often boils down to the rule of cool.
Since the grav guns and grav bits are so crazy expensive on ebay, I was thinking of calling all my plasma (heavy, gun, pistol, combi) the equivalent grav weapon in my Dark Angels army. I would paint the guns all silver to make it more obvious and there would not be any actual plasma weapons in the army list. I also wanted to run a FW Javelin Attack Speeder in proxy for the ugly Dark Shroud and the FW Scimitar Jetbikes in proxy for the ugly Land Speeders. Would this be OK in an ITC evnt?
That one gets really tough. Saying Plasma are Grav is one of the areas where folks actually do get upset. Instead, I would suggest ording some weapons form third part companies like Kromlech.
Yeah, I get that. Same applies to using FW 30K as different 40K units?
Most tourneys specifically allow you to use FW models to represent GW units so long as they are approximately the right size/etc; it’s a specific case for proxying that often is granted an exception. So you could likely get away with proxying a Legion Breacher Squad for some Tactical Marines or whatnot, but most people would draw the line at calling them Terminators.
Yeah, good example.
That would probably be counted as a proxy rather than a counts-as because you were just painting them different; however, with a little bit of work (giving the plasma weapons a different tip, adding some weird fins or other bits, etc) you could make sure they weren’t mistaken for “normal” plasma.
Again, the key points are effort and differentiability. Just calling one thing another is proxying; making it distinctly different is counts-as.
What about say, a razorwing as a crimson hunter or vice versa?
If it’s consistent, they most folks are cool with it. Like, you have 3 Razorwings but use them all as Crimson Hunters? Cool. You have 3 and 2 are Razorwings but 1 is counting as a Crimson Hunter? Not cool.
thanks for having me on!
Thanks for joining, sorry the stream dropped at the end =/
I’m sad my little ITC event did’t get any love. 🙁 It’s 10/17…
It will next week! We only announce the coming weekend’s events.
YAY! I can finally be cool!
Darn, you just missed all of the new tau news, look forward to seeing what you have to say on Monday.
Could anyone remind me where I can send in my list for review? Sorry for asking it, i’m sure you get this question often. Maybe add it to the annotation?
Thanks!
