  1. Sadly grav cannons on the skyhammer are such a requirement – it’s basically a free kill on a wraithknight for 4 of them which is only 10 more points than 8 missile launchers which don’t pull the weight needed.

  2. Right but The T8 just kills the effectiveness of S8 shots against WKs.

With Str8 shots (melta/missle etc) shooting 40 shots lands 26.4 hits, 12.2 wounds, after 5+ invuln and 5+ FNP you get 5.3 wounds taken on the Knight. So unless you put out 40 str8 shots on that turn then you really shouldn’t have killed the knight.

compared to just the 4 gravs from skyhammer you end up with 16 wounds on average with the knight dying.

    1. Fair enough. But in general terms, against most opponents, I want the 48′ range as it means I live to fire more often. 24′ range means I drop, shoot once in all likelihood, and then die. I value the Skyahhmer Formaiton more for the pinning ability than the firepower. The drop Plas and Melta were meant to finish him off (should have used Monster Hunter for the reasons you listed, averages more wounds) but hey, it is after-all, a dice game.

      1. Missiles are just really mediocre guns; the Lascannon is only barely more expensive and is vastly more effective at killing/crippling medium-to-heavy tanks thanks to +1Str and -1AP.

Skyhammer typically dies the turn after it arrives, but I don’t think that’s really avoidable in most cases. Opponents with any sort of ranged firepower are going to hit it hard, and a MEQ statline won’t hold up for long, 48″ range or not.

Getting the superior alpha strike is what Skyhammer is all about. Multimeltas and Grav Cannons do that; other guns do not.

        1. I actually have very good results with the MLs. That game was a bit silly, but with Tank Hunters they’re quite good vs. anything but AV14, and the frags give you a lot of flexibility on target selection. I have a lot of AP1 and 2 in other parts of the list, so I don’t feel short on firepower against anything but armies that spam out 2+ saves.

  3. Hey there! Nice game guys, tansk for hosting!

Reece I missed the first turn, can you explain what was your plan with Issodon’s sabotage ability and Master of Ambush Warlord Trait? Did you infiltrate the meltas/plasmas squads for Alpha strike?

Just a thought, but I think you were about 100pts short too,!I could squeeze a Thunderfire canon in a similar list using Battlescribe.

    Thanks again guys!

    1. I deep struck everything, but infiltrating could have worked, too, as I was going first. Might have been the better choice, actually.

It was great fun, though! That damn, dirty Wraithknight just wouldn’t die! haha
