Check this post for ongoing updates on the BAO! All the prep and planning is about to pay off! The BAO is getting ready to kick off!
The 5th annual BAO is going to be a blast! We’ve got the crew working early in the morning to get everything set up, and the hall is really coming together. We can’t wait to see everyone at the event, it’s going to be a blast. Who’s going to win it all in the 40k Champs?! We’ll keep you all updated with all the fun for 40k, Warmachine, Malifaux, DzC, Warzone, and the hobby seminars!
Round 1
And we’re off! BAO is well underway and running smoothly! We started on time even with 22 people turning up at the door the day of! WOW! We had our typical 10% no show ratio (like clockwork) and with some hustle, were able to accommodate every player and get them a space to play on. 134 players day 1, not bad, considering we only started with room for 128! We had folks come in from as far away as the Midwest and Hawaii just hoping to grab a spot. That’s pretty cool.
Space Marines are out in FORCE! Battle Companies are quite popular and there are a ton of Annihilation forces, too. Knights are all over the place, along with a surprising amount of Tau, which is awesome. There’s also a strong presence of Eldar and Daemonkin, whom have proven to be very popular among the tournament crowd. The field is chalk full of dick kicker lists piloted by expert players, most of the best of the west coast are here. We’ve also been treated to a beautifier display of competition miniatures, too! Really, a great event so far, it is packed to the gills. A little warm on this summer day, but that is the only complaint.
We had a number of excellent players draw each other round 1, which is always a bummer, but it will encourage a very diverse field. We have a lot of the usual suspects out in front so far with perfect scores, but it’s early days yet. We’ll give more detailed information as the field begins to stratify.
Round 3
And the event is heating up! We’re starting to narrow down the field and it’s looking interesting! We’ve got Daemons, Daemonkin, Nids, Battle Companies, Knights, Astra Militarum, and Taudar still in the running to win it all!
We’ve got some great paint classes going on, too, and some demo games of Infinity in full effect! Going to be interesting to see who survives the next round of elimination!

Good luck everyone! Keep us informed!
It’s been a great event, so far!
Does this live blog track score or what?
No.
If there are any battle co’s there, I’d like to know if they actually finish a game, especially against decuri-crons.
Also how many peeps are in this one?
134 players.
Darn, was hoping to get more consistant updates from here with my buddy trying to go for the win.
Our first commitment is to the attendees here, we update the blog when we can.
So if elder don’t do as well. Do you think the itc will slowly unnerf some of the str d changes such as allowing str d count as str 10 for insta death purposes.
Strength D is not only about Eldar, though, there are a ton of LoW’s that slang the dirty D.
Ya I understand that the only change I felt was off for it was the fact it didn’t count as str10 for insta death making str d slightly worse then str 10 ap2 weapons in certain instances.
If enough people feel that way, we can revisit that, of course. The ITC is a very flexible format.
I vote to revisit “toe-in-cover” monstrous creatures while we’re there. :p
Having just won a small local tournament with Daemonkin a few weeks ago, I’m really curious to see how they work out in a tougher environment. They’ve definitely got some good tools, but they’ve also got some gaps. Glad to hear at least some are still doing well three Games in.
I just used my daemonkin to play a dark angel list with 3 units of dark knights and like 5 units of scouts plus a Demi company. That twin linked plasma with reroll jink, str 5 rend in melee, and hit and run chewed me up. I would be interested to know how to counter those little devils with a low shooting army.
Daemonkin are doing well! We’ve got one on table 2 playing Eldar coming down the home stretch, here.
Great fun. You guys are the best. Wonderful events. Now come biy me a beer 😉
Haha, so demanding! 😉
Man, I see Alan is going strong. Is he still running the orks + daemon summoning list from wgc?
All Daemons. Played him Round 1 and he straight out tabled my Eldar.
Are the 3 “chaos space marines” in the top ten after day one in fact Khorne Daemonkin?
Daemonkin, and 2 Renegades.
Renegades, nice
What did JY bring to the party? Always love seeing nids at the top.
5 Flyrants and 2 crones.
Wow, be interesting to see how he makes that work with so little on the ground for scoring.
It seems free points are the name of the game this event. According to petey’s top 8 list, half the top 8 are getting free stuff in their armies.
