Awesome batreps guys! Don’t stop!
Nice one, fellas!
Great battlefield – where did you get the containers and the buildings. Those look like a great add to a battlefield. Keep up the great work!
Who would have guessed that 500 pts worth of free wargear could make such a difference?
yeah, I’m all for limiting “free” points in competitive play
To be fair, you get a lot of free stuff however alot of that is spent on semi useless wargear like arc maces and fluffy items. If you ran these units with the pts included it would not be all thst good. The free upgrades make for a strong and fluffy army but not an unbeatable one. I really like it as it encourages the end of spam!
Besides, its not the free wargear that makes it so good. Its the canticles for sure!
Yeah, Canticles on every unit is really really good.
I like this style of battle reports. It’s quick but gives you enough info on how things performed.
As far as the Skyhammer goes, from what I have gathered from this video, I don’t think it can be slapped into any list and make it better. For the Dev squads, in games that are more than 1000 points, I would not make them minimum sized. I would go full 10 man and combat squad them to cover more ground and enemy units, especially if you use Grav-cannons because of how expensive they are. Anything less would make them too fragile, in which case it becomes a huge points sink, or overkill when targeting certain units. If you would go min squad, I think Multi-meltas would be a better choice, especially if you know what you plan to target when the game begins. Hell, a max Dev squad with multi-meltas will still cost less than a min squad of Grav-cannons. They did choose the best Chapter Tactics for the formation, though, with Ultramarines.
It’s a strong formation, but there are some minor weaknesses that can make a big effect on deciding if you will include it in your army. 1) It’s not an Auxiliary Unit, so if you want your Gladius Strike Force, you will have to really squeeze the points all around, which can end up hurting you more in the end. 2) Unless they are Ultramarines, they will not benefit from any Combat Doctrines since they are not part of any attachment except their own. 3) The formation won’t always get the benefits that their Special Character will give them, like Vulkan, because they tend to be only affecting units in their Detachment.
I think, overall, the Formation is good to include as an ally to your army (like AM or GK) or to compliment what you already have (Drop Pod armies will definitely get more out of them).
*Detachment, not Attachment. Can’t English good today.
