In this episode we discuss Eldar, Wargames Con, ITC, and Skitarii.

So the vlog is just the video version of the podcast previously released? Testing the waters?
I like the idea, the facial expressions go a long way with the dialogue. All the hand gestures as well. The photo fade-ins are a really nice touch as well. You guys need a backdrop to get rid of that glare from the cabinets in back. Maybe a light from above as well, so you both aren’t being blinded from front lights.
The audio quality seems better here than the podcast previously too.
Thanks for the awesome feedback, Chris, that was helpful. Yeah, this will replace the audio-stream on the site, we’re still just figuring out how best to do it. We’ll put the audio track on iTunes, and then the show will be a videocast here and on YouTube. Soon, it will be live cast on Twitch, so that everyone can actually watch live and ask questions and such. I think that will be really fun!
I want to see a big Back drop of just Front Line Gaming logo repeated over and over again behind you guys. It’d keep the lighting good, in video that depth of view behind you isn’t really great I keep waiting for something to creep up behind you. Audio is great, Video is good.
Compare them to other Units in the game.
Tombblades, same Weaponoutload, better Profile and ignore Cover. they cost less!
2 Jetbikes cost the same like a Trike, have the same Output. Trikes have better Specialrules and a better profil. Nobody cares.
Jetbikes just have Ld 8, so without a charakter you kill 3 and they run of the board.
They are really good, but they arent the first and not broken. If you could take one Weapon in 3 nobody would take it because they are better in boosting to objectives.
1 in 3 is the same ratio that is used in all other bike style units besides Tomb Blades. I think that is a much more responsible ration. A scatter laser is better than a S6 blast any way. It can hit flying things and will net you far more wounds than a blast. Guide + a unit of 10 Scatter Lasers will kill basically any flyer in the game, specially if they can boost into the back arc. I personally see the Scatter Laser option on every bike as a much bigger deal than D-Weapons because of the universal applicability of such a weapon/ unit. Mass S6 is only not effective against a very small portion of the units in the game. D weapons can be ridiculously effective at killing a smaller portion of units in the game. To most things there will be little difference between that and a S10 AP1 hit.
Comparing to Tomb Blades or Attack Bikes is a bit off. The main thing about the bikes isn’t that the guns are good (which they are), it’s that they’re good guns that are difficult to reach. 36″ outranges most basic guns and in truth, all the guns that you can put on the bikes you’re talking about. On top of that, not only do they have the regular Jetbike mobility, they also have the Eldar assault moves on top of it. That basically guarantees that they’ll be free of return fire by all but heavy weaponry.
Still, I don’t think Jetbikes are as scary as people are trying to make them out to be. But I play Necrons, so not much scares me π
D weapons affect multi-wound creatures, MC’s, Vehicles, and Super Heavy Walkers the most. The meta is currently dominated by MC’s and IK’s and many armies have been struggling to deal with them. I see the introduction of D shooting as a possible deterrent against such heavy emphasis on big models. D shooting may serve to direct the game back toward infantry and small units. 7th edition has been the addition of the big toys. It started with the decision to allow anything to score (which relegated most troop options to “tax unit,” status), that coupled with the virtual destruction of the FOC, and codex detachments that remove Ob.Sec in order to get rules that give armies any special flavor, has lead to a rise in lists that no longer look like armies, but instead look like something off of Pacific Rim. Balanced armies composed of a mix of tanks, planes, infantry, MC’s etc. have a hard time interacting with these lists as only a certain portion of the units you would take in a TAC list can actually damage these “big toy,” lists. Non-interaction is bad, and not fun to experience. D weapon shooting would threaten that trend and I for one welcome this. I bout into 40k to play an army, not a Mech Lance, or to reenact a Godzilla Movie. We need ways to quickly kill them so there is a decision that must be made about “do I risk taking this unit en mass?”
Can do! Eventually there will only be the video post (with pictures and such to clik con per usual!), right now there is a lag time between recording, and editing and posting the video cast, so we split it into two posts.
I’m glad you’re having an honest discussion about what appears to be a terrible codex as far as balance goes. Damn right no one is going to have a chance. There will be a shit ton of S6, D weapons, and a underpriced WK in every comp list. Not to mention objective secured and movement like no other. My lgs has a few guys who spam the hell out of Eldar now (two of them have titans, for example). I have been discussing this with them, and I am rather certain we will an abandonment of wave serpant spam, transplanted with other spam I think the best response with people like that is to not even discuss gaming criteria before hand, just don’t play with them.
As to comp gaming, here’s my opinion, Eldar players get to use their old book. The wave serpent gets nerfed to what it is now. The end.
On a different note, the mass exodus on the other forums is somewhat breathtaking. The rage is real.
A good fix to Eldar D-weapons would probably be as follows:
If a D weapon hits, 1=nothing happens while 2-6=auto aound/pen but only 1 HP/wound without the instant death special rule. If people want a “6” to be more powerful, have the “6” result do d3 wounds/HPs.
For Eldar, D-Cannons count as S10 for instant death while everything else counts as S4.
Honestly, Distort weapons usually destroyed anything they shot at anyway so I don’t see them as too big of an issue other than D-Scythes (which are like infinity+1 times better as D weapons).
The main problem with D weapons was always that potential to roll a “6” which means do not pass go and if that result is removed from the table, I think the problem with D weapons will be as well.
Reece and Frankie, I was wondering if you could explain your love of the Onagers? I am trying to see what you see, but all i see is maybe one for anti air. The points you pay for the st10 ap1 small blast on an easily tarpitted squadron of walkers is not clicking for me, any help you could give me on that would be wonderful. Loving the video cast so far guys, maybe get yourself a 40 inch flat screen to sit just off cam connected to your pc via hdmi, might make it easier for your show notes and images, so you dont have to squint to see them. But great job so far!
The Onagers provide really solid AA for lists that lack it, particularly with Knights! I slap the Claw on them, too, which makes them a bit pricey, but if I find myself in a situation where they can’t contribute anything else, they can at least assault!
And we do have a big screen next to the camera, haha, I think we just need to zoom in a bit =P
IMO wraithguard will still have the same issues they had before and that is range. They will have to use a some sort of a delivery system. Waveserpents are little easier to get rid of and if you use the archon with the wwp they will destroy their target then will have to walk to their next targets which might be out of range.
If you choose the skitarii leader as a warlord then he gets preferred enemy. Which means if he is in a unit with 3 plasma they get to re roll 1s to hit and wound. It can be pretty nasty, can’t wait to play my skitarii π
Yes, that will still be the big issue, but, things like Scythes with WWP will be so vicious. They kill whatever they shoot unless that thing has a very powerful invul save.

Great start, can’t wait to see it evolve.

You can do video podcasts on iTunes too, can’t you?
Or am I getting confused with iTunesU courses?
Even if I was, this is educational isn’t it? Tried registering Frontlinegaming.edu – school of hard Ds?
Honestly, not certain, yet. We will look into it, though!

That’s a good idea! We will definitely get a back drop, haven’t had a chance to get it done, yet.

Play more Dropzone Commander and you don’t have to create your own rules to be able to play a fair tournament. π
As an Eldar player I really hate the destroyer weapons. The Aspects are absolutely fantastic and fluffy and should be a blast to play.
Yeah,Dzc is a really balanced game.

Good points, but do you think the D slangers will then become the “problem units?”
Could you post the cast outline with pics like you used to before the videos, as well as the vid/pod cast?
I find those outlines and clickable pics really helpful.
Improvement every day, fellas!

Yeah, this may very well be the most over-powered book GW has ever made, but, we will wait and see. We’re going to give it a fair shake.

I agree with you, Adam. The Scythe will be the issue, along with no-scatter Deep Strike. It will erase anything in the game.
I think that we will certainly have to take a look at how D weapons work.
