As a life long comic fan, I could never get excited about Ant-man. Just a lame superhero with lame powers that should have been left behind in the 60’s. I don’t want to be negative, but it bums me out that Ant-man got a movie before Dr. Strange or Black Panther.
I’m so confused. Marvel has a character named Hank Pym who has been the ant man. He also has the ability to grow in size which is a much cooler power than just shrinking and riding a bug. He also is the creator of the robot ULTRON! Um why is this not about Hank Pym…. makes zero sense to me.
You can’t exactly have that in a movie. While other characters have been able to get over very damaging storylines (Iron Man for all of the original Civil War for example), Hank Pym was never written with anything else in mind. Anytime he’s been shown in panel, they always bring it up. the only time they avoided the issue was in Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
And even then he’s a different character with the same name and powers. Once you really sit down and read his stories it’s easy to see why they made Tony Stark the builder of Ultron instead of Hank…..plus he totally made a robot of his dead wife he used to beat.
From rumors, Pym may be more involved in the MCU than it appears. There is a rumor a young Pym shows up in Agent Carter. And Avengers Age of Ultron promo is that Stark restarts an old weapons program. Guessing its from Pym’s work, and its rumored there is a flashback, in Ant Man, with Pym and Zola (the weasely Hydra scientist from Cap movies) and a young Alexander Pierce. May mean that Pym figuured out not to trust these guys. I also bet he was Antman at one point.
Scott Lang, played by Rudd, was the second Antman in the comics. He stole the gear from Pym, but was the ‘crook with noble reason for being a crook’ and Pym let him keep it.
It didn’t excite me that much, but want to see a real trailer. It takes place after Avengers 2, so they may be hiding somethings due to spoiling that movie. But I will go see Marvel movies until they go down hill.
Antman is boring and a very 60s hero. But he was a founding Avenger. I just hope that Janet didn’t get fridged. She proved herself many times over and I expect she was killed off screen in this film.
Thanks for that info, I didnt know some of that. To me it seems like Ant-Man isnt a strong enough character to warrant a feature film. He has no real fan base other than true comic book readers and fans of The Avengers history. It would have been satisfying enough if they used Pym’s Antman in the next Avengers. That all said, Marvel has been making some good movies so who knows it could be good, but my interest isnt there like it usually is with Marvel’s other movies.
I think having Paul Rudd as the lead makes it more appealing to a mass market. People said the same thing about Guardians of the Galaxy which was a niche comic book, and the movie kicked ass, so I remain optimistic!
Ant-Man is a weird comic to pick, but honestly with some of their biggest franchises belonging to other film companies.. they need to work these niche books.
Guardians of the Galaxy – Inhumans – Avengers – they weren’t the best selling comic books but they’re defiantly making a big run at it.
Its interesting to see Marvel doing the weird sci-fi thing they had in the comics.. I always felt it’d be the harder thing to do.
Meh…..

Dr Strange would be an awesome movie…. Sucks it wasn’t made when Vincent Price was alive
I’m just glad those two characters are getting movies.
I’d LOVE to see Dr. Strange! I really like some of the Black Panther story arcs, but some of them are really crappy.
I want to see Immortal Ironfist or the recent Moon Knights, where he’s crazy!
Marvel has been kicking ass.. I expect this to be good too.

Because Hank Pym has a bad rep for being a wife beater. Look up hank pym on google and you’ll find this image right away:

I’m just wondering how they are going to tie ant-man into Ultron. Or if they are even going to do so.
