- Skimmers Deep Striking
- Pg. 89 States that if a skimmer ends its movement on friendly or enemy models, it moves the minimum distance to avoid that.
- Deep strike seems to count as moving.
- Therefore, do skimmers reduce the scatter if they end up over models that would cause them to mishap?

At work so can’t listen until tomorrow, but interested to see the ruling on that skimmer one. I saw someone pushing that on another board
@Rules Lawyer
The scope of the meaning on bullet point 2, rests on ‘counts as moving’.
Now if you define ‘count as’ as you would in everyday speech, for example a proxy model ‘counts as’ a riptide, then what your not saying is that proxy model is a riptide (unless you’ve proxying a riptide with a riptide hah). But what you are saying is that for all other in game functions and rules that non-riptide model is a riptide (i.e. like a riptide).
Deep striking isn’t an actually a movement (it’s a deployment from reserves) and it has restrictions on movement, in the movement phase, after it’s placement.
So a deep striking skimmer is in essence ‘proxying’ normal movement, it has all the negative/ positive effects of moving but without the actually move per se and since it’s not ACTUALLY moving it doesn’t benefit from the ruling in first bullet point.
Analytics aside the rulebook is pretty clear on this, the ‘counts as moving’ line is in the shooting section of the deep striking rules, i.e. counts as moving for the purpose of shooting.
Funny thing is deep strikes happen in the movement phase not before( you only roll for reserves before movement) and there is no other way for a skimmer to be forced to end it’s move over enemy models
And the court doesn’t need an archon to be fieldable, its so when you play unbound nothing will have a “unit” tax to take, same reason all the old dedicated transports are being moved to fast attack
Actually, if a skimmer rams a vehicle with infantry in front of the vehicle, and doesn’t blow the vehicle up, it would then end its move over models.
Not true. Any none vehicle models in the ram path are treated as being Tank shocked and would have to move out of the vehicles way
Also want to point out that the rules for moving a skimmer is not specific to the movement phase, but rather moving it as a general rule witch would apply when ever it is moved.
Now go to page 12 under scatter and read the fourth bullet points says to do when you don’t roll a hit
Answer is you MOVE the model a number of inches the dice indicate
Just want to put that out there
Not sure what rule book youre reading mate. Here I’ll print out whats in mine…
‘Arriving by deep strike
Roll for the arrival of all Deep Striking units as specified in the rules for reserves (pg135) and then deploy them as follows’
No mention of movement here.
‘ first place one model from the unit anywhere on the table, in the position you’d like it to arrive, and roll for scatter to determine the model’s final position. If a vehicle scatters… do not change it’s facing – it must continue to face the same direction’
Now that clears it up, total absence of the word movement. The text is saying that you pick and point, and that point’s final positional is determined by rolling a scatter dice. The restriction on movement is emphasised in the last part.
You need to read the rules for scatter mate
It very clearly says on page 12 under the Scatter rule fourth bullet point
If an arrow is rolled, MOVE the object the distance shown on the 2D6 in the direction of the arrow . Ignore intervening terrain, units, ETC, unless the rule states otherwise
But the skimmer also isn’t “forced” to ram a vehicle with infantry in front of it, that’s the players choice
Half Baked!
Yes, that’s it!
It was fruit cocktail not pudding. 🙂
“If I gave you my fruit today then you’d want it every day and I wouldn’t get my vitamins…”
“Squirrel Master won’t always be there to protect you! Next time I’m going to want my cocktail… Fruit!”
Great movie.
Hahaha, that’s right! Thanks for the correction =)
Damn u beat me to it, yupp Half Baked!!
Hah, sorry should I dumb down my English. The problem with the whole deep striking skimmer thing is to do with a mix up with the words (in England we call it an ambiguity).
So if there’s a mix up with the words you’ve got to use more technical language to make clear what’s being said.
What About the Hotsauce and Keno Variety show? Are we ever going to do that podcast?
Great show guys. Ah, the human centipede, the movie I made my girlfriend watch without telling her what it was about. Hate to break it to you guys though, a t-rex with minigun arms is already a thing: http://www.cnv.co.il/pics/previews/dh/2010/sep/large/AxeCop.jpg
Regarding the list. It’s not mine but I assume the haemonculi join the DSing blocks of warriors. They have fearless from coven PfP chart so it mitigates the morale issue you guys mention withthe warriors. Had a similar thought with my own list ideas.
I have one phrase..
Human Centipede: Warhammer 40k Narrative Campaign..
Also – Half Baked Is indeed funny..
…and Great Show as always gentleman – look forward to the Splitfire Podcast as well.. Maybe someday i’ll get up enough guts to do my own too.
@ 21 mins in your show you said only the Monolith and some Dark eldar vehicles can deep strike. I would like to point out that the SM Land Speeders can deep strike also.
Good catch!
