Cameron is back with another DzC bat rep. This time, it’s UCM vs. Shaltari. Check out the Tactics Corner for more great video bat reps!
We decided to try out some new list ideas and test out another one of the new tournament missions. This time we did “Take and Extract”. It’s a fun mission, and a good addition to the tournament mission list, but it wasn’t quite as great as “Secure the Flanks”.
As always, let us know how we can make these videos better, and let us know what you think about our tactics and lists!
Awesome report, what a close game!
How are you finding the Eagle performs in general?
The caimans got lucky, but they are an awesome unit. Stand off at 36″, and close once you clear out any enemy heavies. They are certainly a PITA for my gladius tanks!
I don’t think you can re-allocate.
Once a unit has been allocated to defend in CQB, it’s there till the end. Unless you play the strategy card that allows this to occur.
Otherwise there’s a card that doesn’t add anything to the game.
I agree that once you aren’t on the wall, you can’t get get LOS for the forward air controller.
Eagle –
This was actually my first game trying it out (I’m just starting to play my UCM). It’s great at building destruction, and its rail gun can outrange a lot of AA units, but you need to be skillful at judging distance to fit it into the range window where it can shoot and the AA can’t. If it is limited to its rail guns because of enemy AA cover, the eagle is kind of bad at killing skimmers (since you’re only getting 2 shots, probably hitting on 5+), but that can be offset by combining it with Katanas, which are great at killing skimmers, and also great at killing buildings! Bryan’s all-skimmer army with good AA cover and fast movers was probably a bad matchup for the Eagle. He really boxed it in.
Re-allocation –
I put up a rules thread on the Hawk forum, and the consensus so far is that you *can* re-allocate. There is no rule that explicitly states that you are stuck in CQB until the end if you have more squads that the aggressor, and in the rulebook step 7 of CQB seems to point you back to CQB step 3 if the CQB is carrying on to a later turn. Allocation doesn’t happen until step 4, so it looks like you go through the allocation step again every turn. No official ruling yet though.
As for the UCM Command Card, I don’t have it in front of me right now, but I seem to recall that the card allows you to split a squad and have one base fend off the opponent while another base escapes … I’ll have to check that later tonight.
Eagle – I’m going to try proxying two, for a list I might take to a tournament in January. If I can get my UCM all painted and good looking for before then, with the stuff I want to field! 🙂
Re-allocation – Noooo, that means I’ve lost games for two avoidable reasons!!
Air attack lists are pretty powerful right now, because they can really punish players that don’t bring enough AA… but the danger is that you won’t be able to win focal points.
At least with the Ferrum, it can claim a backfield focal point. The Eagle can never contribute.
I think you have come far when it comes to the set-up of DZC battle reports. Showing each activation and all that is great!
Though I must admit I would prefer all painted minis.
Working on it! I painted up a Zeus and an Odin this week.
I have to try to balance playing with painted minis against playing with a variety of lists and tactics. Right now I’m favoring list variety over paint, but I am slowly working on the painting side too. Next time I run PHR you should see a greater % of my army painted.
Same issue here, we simply can’t keep up with painted miniatures for all the new stuff coming out.
I thought that this was a great format and a very well done battle report!!
On an aside, is there anywhere that you guys know of to play in Savannah? I’ll be vacationing on Tybee Island at the end of this month and would love to get a game in with some people down there!
If you go to my YouTube channel and check out battle report #5, there was a guy who came up from Savannah to play in our May tournament (he also kicked all of our butts and took first place). If you go on the Hawk forums, his user name is Nomad.
He hasn’t posted in awhile and his profile doesn’t have much info, but if you send him a PM on the Hawk forums it’s possible it will forward the message to his email and you could get in touch with him.
Outside of that, I think he mentioned there’s at least one game store there that does mini wargaming (I don’t know the name). Calling the store might be worth a shot, or you could see if they have some forums.
Thanks!!! Will do!
Thanx for another DZC batrep!
The Caiman is one of my favorite units, but I only have 1. It was awesome to see 3 in one list.
Yeah, the Caiman is a beast!
The caiman is just scary!
The Caiman’s weakness is that it can only shoot one target with its triple-shot gauss rifle, so you can swarm a Caiman.
3 Caimans… you just stay away and try to win the other parts of the mission.
