JY2 calls down the thunder and challenges Reecius’ for a spot on Team0Comp! JY2 is playing his brutal Necron army against Reecius’ new Knight and Astra Militarum list. Will JY2 earn a spot on Team0Comp or will Reecius continue his winning streak? Check out the Tactics Corner for more great video bat reps! NOTE: A Primaris Psyker no longer fulfills the mandatory HQ, sorry for the confusion!
Congrats! What a game. Fun to watch.
Reece before you take the list to NoVa may wanna check astra militarum dex. I think you need an HQ choice as neither psycher or priest count toward the HQ requirement. Could be wrong.
True story! I forgot that from the previous edition.
Glad you enjoyed the game!
Yup. Codex says “They do not take up a Force Organisation slot, and do not qualify as a mandatory HQ selection.”
I sir, am a dirty rotten cheater!
It’s only cheating if you win.
On first pass I didn’t even notice it as I was thinking of the 5th edition codex. Sometimes playing this game for long periods of time is detrimental as you confuse rules from several editions ago with the current ones.
Congratulations Jy2! Well played! Thought for sure you were boned.
He snuck one in there at the end!
Thanks! I probably would have been had I never faced the knights before. But fortunately, i do have some experience against them.
WELCOME JIM!
Good to be a part of the team!
Congrats Jim, fun batrep to watch guys! I need to make a trip out from Modesto to get a game in one of these days and check out the shop.
You’re welcome to come on out!
Thanks!
Grats Jim!
Thanks!
I said, “what the f*&%” out loud in the store when I first read that broken ass formation ;). You are a bad man for taking it, win or lose lol 🙂
That’s ok. They need an advantage like that to compete with the likes of my crons. 😉
Thanks for the kind words, guys. Glad I was able to beat Reece to make it into the team. BTW, it had to be Reece, the captain of T0C, just because Reece needs someone who can challenge him.
First off, I’d like to thank Reece for taking the time from his busy schedule to play against me in this challenge match.
Secondly, I’d like to say that I am thrilled to be a member of Team Zero Comp. I’m not sure why I didn’t do this sooner, but I am glad to be a part of this group who is helping to promote the hobby.
Now just a slight correction to my list. It was actually this:

[spoiler]
While this game was close, I’d like to think that Reece got a little lucky by winning the roll to go 2nd. If I had been able to go 2nd, I think my chances of winning would have been much, much better. Alas, by me going 1st, it actually made the game a more even matchup.
I made a number of mistakes in this game. Fortunately for me, so did Reece. So what were my mistakes?
1. I poked my ghost ark a little too far out. Reece’s IK was then able to see it and thus, charge it.
2. Instead of focusing on his IK on Turn 4 with 1 flyer and 2 AB’s, I should have focused on his vendetta instead. I swear, his vendetta got so lucky. I believe he made every single jink save for it.
3. After assaulting and breaking his veteran squad with my bargelord, I then consolidated away from his IK. I should have consolidated towards it instead. Why? Because there was another bargelord there already. This way, his IK charges and kills 1. Next turn, I do my sweeping attack against it. Instead, I consolidated away, his IK charged my bargelord and then my other bargelord was out of range to do his sweep attack.
4. I ran prematurely with my disembarked immortals on Turn 5. I actually did my Movement and Run at the same time (at the recommendation by Reece). I then did my sweep attack with my bargelord against his veterans and they broke! Had I waited to do my Run move with my immortals in the Shooting phase as opposed to in the Movement phase, I could have blocked off the wall, thus denying his IK from charging my immortals and contesting the objective at the bottom of 5.
So what was Reece’s mistakes?
1. I assaulted his IK with 2 bargelords. Reece then split his attacks against my 2 bargelords because he got the Destroyer rules wrong (he was still thinking about 6E Destroyer rules). Thus, both Overlords end up surviving and then I killed his knight. Had he reviewed the rules, he would have focused his attacks against 1 bargelord and most likely killed him. Then perhaps I wouldn’t have been able to kill his IK with just 1 bargelord.
2. His IK should have made a play for my Emperor’s Will objective much sooner. Instead, I was able to draw away his IK by moving my AB’s away from it and he took the bait. Then I was able to screen out his IK with my troops to ensure that he couldn’t make it to my objective.
3. Twice he forgot to activate his Psyker’s force weapons. He could have potentially killed 2 Overlords with it as I failed saves on my Overlords on 2 separate occasions due to his psyker’s force axe.
4. He deployed his blob squad + Warlord a little too far from the protection of his knights. Of course it helped that he rolled low to move through difficult terrain and on their Run move while trying to get away from my Overlords, but had they been closer to his IK’s, I would have been much less inclined to assault them.
So overall, we both made some mistakes and that in turn made the game much bloodier. But still, I was actually quite surprised at how well his knights worked together. Deciding to deploy in a flank was actually a good strategy on Reece’s part, and those knights were just vicious. I really couldn’t do much to them and so I didn’t even really try (well, except for that 1 assault with my 2 bargelords ). Then again, going into the game, my strategy never really was to kill off his knights. Rather, my strategy was to kill off the rest of his army and other than the vendetta, I basically achieved that.

All Reecius had to do to crush the 2 barge lords is attack the chariot with his d attacks and it’s lights out
He actually did. However, my chariots were at full health because I have been allocating all of his shooting to my Overlords instead. He then struck and hit each barge only once, doing 1HP to 1 and 2HP to the other.
I then killed his knight. However, Reece got lucky as his explosion took out my barge with 1HP left. Lol.
But on a vehicle its a destroyed result on a 2+ he would have had to be very unlucky not to kill one let alone 2
Never mind I just saw the changes to D weapons
Great bat rep! Really enjoyed it. That necron list is terrifying! The idea of just having a little tomb blade as a single objective grabber is great. Had reece not had a relatively useless wyvern sitting around (with nothing to shoot at cause av13), i think it would have just slowly snatched up points left and right.
Really drives in the need of many armies to have at least one barrage style weapon, so you can prevent such things from happening.
Congrats on making the Team Jim. Do you find this list more effective then your wraith/destroyer lord one?
Yeah, having cheap, mobile MSU units is very useful in the BAO format. However, it would have been more useful had I been going 2nd. Lol.
Barrage is awesome!
AV13 Necrons plays somewhat differently than my wraithwings. My wraithwing always used to have problems against armies with high VoF (volume-of-fire) such as Tau and mechdar. However, they are better against certain armies, especially those with effective tarpit units. For my AV13-necrons, it is the other way around. They do better against armies with VoF firepower (such as IG, Tau and mechdar). However, I have to watch out for armies with effective tarpit units. But overall, I am really enjoying my bargelords as they are a nightmare for most armies to deal with.
Really good points. Thanks for taking the time to give feedback on that question! Always really interesting to see different players views on units. Now crush the wolves!
ooh. snazzy new
intro
Cool, isn’t it?! I really dig it.
Great Battle Report as always! I love the tight games and how they come down to a few key moves / dice rolls!
Also… If Reece messed up then the game should have to be replayed right? 😉
just playin, Well done Jy2 on the ‘W’ and congrats on becoming apart of T0C!
Yeah, he got me at the end there! 1 more turn and I would have taken it with almost 100% surety. Oh well.
Thanks. This was a reversal of the last time where I played my tyranids against Reece’s unbeatable Taudar. Back then, had the game ended on 5, I would have won and taken Reece’s $100. However, the game would go on.
This time, the game didn’t. I would call that poetic justice. 😉
I used to like team Team0comp…
And now you love us? Friends with benies, maybe? =P
Maybe! I have to take a trip to the US to challenge Jy2 now =P
Lol. Come to the LVO! It’s a great place for vacationing, sight-seeing and also for meeting a lot of really good players….or even an ok player like me. 😉
I’ll check out how much flights are from London to Vegas! It would be an awesome trip.
Do it!
Oh my god, now with new music and effects! Okay next I demand explosions mixed in somewhere. Need to Michael Bay it up a bit.
Congrats, Jim! Well played to you both!
Thanks!
Sweet baby jesus, who does that voice for the commercial in the middle? That’s inspired.
Do you think this lance formation would be better with eldar 3 waveserpants 1 unit of jet bikes or is there more merrit in lots of bodies on the ground conscripts blobs and a vendetta.
