InControl takes his Nids with a Barbed Heirodule out against Tastey Taste’s Daemons in this video bat rep! Sorry everyone, I don’t have the lists for this bat rep. Check out the Tactics Corner for more great videos!

flyrant dakka
barbed heirodule
2x crone
3x warriors (1 barb, 1 vanilla, 1 sword/lash)
3x hive guard
9 ripper bases (3×3 w/ deep strike)
I later changed this to 3x Flyrants and took out the 2x Crones + 26 termagants AND I made the warriors 1 barb +2 vanilla

Welcome back incontrol! glad to see some new units on the board for tyranids.
Seemed like the rippers functioned nicely, deepstriking to force your opponent to deal with fearless OS units on objectives. How did you like them vs termagaunts?
Poor crones.
That’s the loadout I like on my warriors as well; good access to a pinning weapon, synapse, just have to avoid those str 8 weapons heh.
I know this is your first game with it, at least on camera…but you don’t find that hierodule to be a liability or vp pinata? It is pretty much as tough as tyranids get. It’s our only access to t8 wounds, but it’s basically just a wraithknight isn’t it? I mean it is tough, but if it gives up double vps I might take a couple exocrines instead for the ap2 and more threat overload…just spitballing here.
glad you’re back, was not feeling too much tyranid love circa 7th ed dropping.
Giving up VP and granting +1 to seize are all big deals BUT.. I find going second that much more powerful in 7th so the seize is mitigated and I try and not have it die by baby sitting it with venomthropes etc. It is range ’48 so I can usually have it last pretty solidly and what I like about it is it DOES attract all the attention so I can leave my (new list) 3 flyrants to do their work. I’ve only played 3 games with it so far so I might change my opinion on it but so far it has been really really good.
So you are playing with 2 CADs? Since you have 3 Flyrants
ALSO
gargantuan creatures can’t overwatch so I cheated there BUT he made cover saves vs my hive guard 😉
ALSO my list(s) include 2 venomthropes
So, “yes” or “no” on the Hierodules?
Yes to Barbed.
Ah, I meant was it a solid choice or just too expensive. I have both but haven’t used them much
Geoff has been winning games with it. He did lose a close one to Dan’s Black Dragon Drop Pods, though.
I could see drop down melta spam doing that, though hopefully T8 and a toe in terrain/venomthropes could mitigate that. I was actually considering the Scythed till your list came out (Hellstorm template, I get it and agree especially for things like the C’tan). Will have to play around with it some more.
Yeah, sorry for the confusion on that, I got mixed up on which Heirodule was which.
I personally am playing TMC spam right now and liking it. I go back and forth on that vs. mixing in a big unit of Gargs as they are still so dang useful for just getting in the way, tying stuff up, charge blocking, providing cover to the big boys, etc.
Hierodule is BAMF !!!
I think the match was actually a draw b/c of the hierodule, 6 hp lost = 2 VP for the Daemons, so 5-5 ?
The bonus VPs for slaying superheavies/GCs are applied towards winning the secondary objective, not the overall score.
At bs3 the scything hierodule is probably the better way to go surely?
Hellstorm template at ap3 and 7 attacks at ws4.
‘Tis a point sinc though for sure!
Yup. That is why it isn’t allowed in BAO etc.
That’s crazy. Scythed hierodule not allowed And yet imperial knights and other various super heavies are?
Tyranids have the least threatening ( point for point) super heavies in the game.
You know what’s funny? The only complaints we’ve really gotten about our system is about which Super Heavies are being allowed, haha, that cracks me up. We decided on a blanket ban on anything with a big, ignores cover template or blast. It is a bit arbitrary, but we want to ease into Super Heavies.
Oh, and the Heirophant is definitely not un-intimidating in my book =p
Yeah, thats my pushback on the Barbed. Sure it has 12 St 10 shots, but only half will hit and that on a 700pt platform!!
Well 565 point platform but yeah.
I don’t disagree. That said though Reece wants to keep out as much hellstorm, apocalyptic blast and D strength as is reasonable.. unfortunately that means no Scythed as it’s flamer is hellstorm. I agree Nids have limited options if you do that.. would have liked to have seen a Harridan. Especially since it now only has 1 vector strike and assaulting with it is more difficult. As Bigpig said 12 strength 10 shots is scary but with their BS these gargantuans are only hitting half the time or so.
It can shoot two targets though, so you get 6 strength 10 on 2 units which is better than 2 T-fexes.
As it should! It’s over 200 pts more expensive than 2 t fexxes 🙂
‘zakly what I was gonna say 🙂
The iNcontroL commentary is f’in priceless.
