Check out the Tactics Corner for more video bat reps! NOTE: Per the new FAQ, none of the named ICs can take a Command Barge. Sorry for the confusion.

  1. Not a bad game there! I wasn’t as impressed by the Stormlord as I thought I would be though. Using it more aggressively as a transport that could move up a huge number of guard onto a mid-field objective might have worked out a little better (and once there it can just be stationary and shoot).

    1. Yeah, I thought it was going to be just chewing me up but the Lord with Res Orb and the 4+ save on the wall was able to soak it up for two turns which is all I needed to get into his lines and cause havoc.

  2. I was worried on the first turn too. I don’t think the error on the CCB was too debilitating. Even without taking over the Manticore a CCB lord that survives to get into the Guards lines will make a mess of things.

I’m liking the looks of the new missions. When do you think we’ll get a look at all of them?

  3. Just 2 things:

    1. OS scoring.

    2. Mobile scoring.

Basically, static armies are as good as dead in this edition. Even Guards and Tau needs to start moving or they will lose (unless they can table their opponents).

Just a thought but i am sure you can only use an overlord in a catacomb command barge. the faq says to remove it for all the named guys as an option.

  5. That was a really good batrep. I liked your modified Maelstrom table, I think that is a great idea to incorporate into your tournament. I wish you guys luck and success this year with the turnout.

See, I can be a positive person every now and then!

  6. Punisher’s are a much better investment for massed high strength shooting it seems like. BS3 AP3 just isn’t that great on a cover heavy table.

  7. Not to be a spoilsport, but Anrakyr can’t get a Command Barge anymore.

The Maelstrom stuff looks interesting, though I’m surprised there’s the two “identical” kill ones.

  8. I run a Stormlord 4xsponsonw/HFs + HStb, and like all superheavies they have some interesting advantages. The first is that Tank Shocking is finally more useful with all SHs. Anecdotal story: I have killed a full strength Demon Prince just by running it over with a HellHammer, rollin 6’s. Stormlords in particular benefit from having 3xTechPriestsw/3xServitors embarked in them. The most important thing is that when they explode you can easily lose 50% more of your army then the loss of the SH alone. For this reason a Stormlord is awesome with lots of flame templates and vet squads to drop off at objectives along the way. So that by the time it’s about to lose it’s last hull point you might be able to have your SH in the enemy lines so that they’ll have to take the D,8,4 huge blast marker.

Also, have you thought about running a Stormlord with19Lascannons on a Skyshield, or 15 Flakk missles instead?

  9. Raw Dogger that list looked so mean…. WTF happened with your dice, again? Did you buy new dice after you got married? If not you need to burn those fuckers and get some new ones. I thought Reece might get his ass handed to him but NOoooOOOOOooooo….. Great bat rep.

    1. LOL. The fact that it’s harder to get off Prescience really dooms any chance I have at average. I normally try and twin link everything so that I at least roll averagely but now that I can’t even get THAT off really cans any list I bring.

Great Batrep! Raw Dogger and I might be related considering his dice rolls are as abysmal as mine usually are.

The firepower of the Guard list is pretty brutal. Personally though, I wouldn’t use more than one blob squad to hold your home objective, and a conscript blob as meat shields for your tanks. I would add at least two squads of troops in transports, otherwise the list is too static. Inquisitorial Henchmen (with Coteaz as HQ) are a great choice imho since they’re so versatile that you can tailor them to whatever your list requires.

I love the Stormlord model, it sure is intimidating when you put that brick on the table.
