The Guardian Cup is a Wrap!

And that’s a wrap, folks! The Guardian Cup is over and behind us.

It was a fun event, and I think everyone left having had a good time. I know I did! Big thanks to Guardian Games for hosting us (and again, what an amazing game store, check it out if you are in Portland) and to or very own CaptainA for running it!

When the dust settled, the juggernaut that is GTA’s Seer Council was stopped in the finals against Ben Cromwell’s (aka, Dr.Insanotron’s) Skyblight Nids! It was a good game but Ben pulled it out to win it all. Congrats and way to be Nidz! Finishing off 6th with a strong win. Skyblight is really a great tool for the Bugs and makes them able to compete in what is otherwise a pretty disappointing codex. Also, a big shout out to Ben Cromwell who challenged GTA and earned his spot on Team Zero Comp! Double win for Ben.

Best Overall went to Aventine and his Chaos/Necrons. He barely lost to GTA in the semi-finals.

Best appearance went to the heavily converted Space marines belonging to Carl. Great army.

Spam Adams got best Tau finishing 3-2-1, Frankie went 5-1, and won his bracket. InControl went 4-2, I went 3-2-1 with my Scouts and got best sportsmen in my bracket barely losing Best Space marine to Jeremy V. (The French overlord) who beat me in a barn burner of a game with his White Scars, and Raw Dogger went 2-4 with his IG.

In all, it was a great event and a great way to finish off 6th edition. We had a really good time, enjoyed Portland a lot and saw some old friends and made some new friends. I highly recommend this event for anyone that wants to go in the future. We’ll be home tomorrow, and back to work!

  1. It was awesome that Team Zero Comp brought so many guys to the event. Although I did not get a chance to try my 5 Knights against one of you, it was clear you guys brought a lot of positive energy to the event and would have been great to play. Thanks for making the trip!

  2. The Best Player of 40k seems to have been in a giving mood if he let people win… he must be ready for 7th edition and a 6th edition tournament was surely something he did not fancy to win. 😀
    Glad you guys had a blast!

          1. Yeah, you won it in style with Nids!

            @Jeremy,

            Yeah, now we have a teammate in the Pacific Northwest! If you want to challenge Ben, just let us know how it goes! Also, if you could do a video bat rep of it, that would be awesome!

    1. If you had just deep-strike the pod in the middle of table and were my dice slightly less hot, I think you would have had the game hands down.

      1. Yeah, I thought about that with the pod, but I wanted to apply backfield pressure to force you to come back there, but, you took out all of my Heavy Support which gave you the edge. I should have reserved the Stalkers.

        But you out-played me, your strategy was sound and you executed it well. I’ll get you next time =)

  3. Ben Cromwell is a class act, one of my favorite opponents at tournaments. Haven’t played him in years though. Oh well. 😀 Well done, Ben!

      1. What I love about Ben is that he is super amiable, but isn’t pulling any punches whatsoever. The epitome of what I hope for when I’m throwing down.

    1. Oh sweet! You guys did that again! I should switch my avatar on Gravatar to the picture you took of my ad mech counts as space marine scouts. Makes it look like I have skill in painting (news flash, I don’t!). It’s like glamour shots for models! 😀
