This bat rep is double the awesome! Not only are we trying out the new Tyranid Living Artillery formation, but we are also giving Noah a challenge match to see if he can pilot his Tau to a spot on Team Zero Comp! As always, check out the tactics corner for more videos and articles!
poor noah… first me then frankie and now reece. 😉
He played a good game, but that list was so powerful. I think he should have hit the Venomes with SMS, but other than that, his target priority was pretty good. He had shit dice the whole game, too.
Noah’s army looks awesome. How did he convert the riptides? Those certainly make the army stand out.
Yeah, the conversions were sweet! He made the huge wings on the Iontide with Drop Pod hull parts!
not to mention tons of LoS / he lined up close to the swarm. Had he castled/deployed objectives on the other side of the map maybe a better matchup for him.. still rough but better I think. I know the carnis were over there but at least he would be hit less by the warriors and wouldn’t get flooded by the swarm.
I think he deployed well. I deployed in the middle so that I could react to him going on either flank. The real mistake was leaving Pathfinders and Kroot where I could blast them turn one. Other than that, he should have left himself a path to run away from me as he is faster than me once my fast movers are dead.
You must have done something wrong, Tyranids can’t beat Tau, the internet said so.
Codex Tyranid can’t. Micro-transaction Tyranid….
Heh DLC’s for the win….meh there are some things in there like Skyblight which I would feel guilty about fielding in a non tournament game….
Lol!
This.
The internet says they aren’t good because they don’t outcheese taudar.
It’s amazing how one formation can have such a positive impact on an army. Also, it’s really nice to hear good things about tyranid warriors again. It was just a small compliment, but you’ve got to start somewhere.
Yeah, it is crazy how much the balance swings in that change. But when you can flood the field with TMCs, they are just so points efficient. They do work.
The Warriors in this case, were awesome. They basically auto-pass guide on three units a turn, that is so good. And they provide backfield synapse, are a scoring unit, and shoot a bit. In all, for what you get in the formation, they are very good. In general, I hate them, though, lol!
And you know what’s crazy? You can put Skyblight Swarm and Living Artillery formation in a 1750 no problema…..
Pardon me while I go change my shorts.
Don’t the rules for Formations specify that you can only take one per Primary Detachment?
Sorry I don’t have the rules in front of me, but I read elsewhere (or maybe it was on the forums here) that you can take multiple Tyranid Formations within your army. Is that right?
You can take as many as you like as long you’re within the point limit and you have a legal Primary Detachment. So you could do bare minimum – Prime and 2 gant squads – and max out on formations.
Yeah, but we don’t allow that in our events as it gets too crazy, too fast. You can do that with the stupid Tau formation, too and it gets bananas, quick.
yea, this dataslate has given Tyranids the means to kick ass
It does, for 100%.
Even as a Tau player (well in addition to a half dozen other armies) i gotta say seeing Nids outshoot and pummel the tau gives me warm fuzzy feelings.
Those latest formations are brutal.
Yeah, this makes Nids good, just like that. Crazy.
It’s a cool way for ‘Nyds to ally with themselves, I personally am a fan, if it were double codex crap then you wouldn’t get all the fancy pants buffs. (Also, who knows what GW has in store for the next addition, maybe Allies are going to get corn holed in the back 40, this is just a stepping stone in that direction…)
Go micro-transactions!
Realistically, if you were purchasing an allied detachment (as opposed to just usin the models you may already own), then you would be buying a codex and an army you previously didn’t even have. I don’t really understand everyone’s problem with it… If you purchase all 3 that come out, is it still not cheaper then a HB-Codex for another faction!?
To all those griping that they “now have to go buy Harpies”, fuckin cry babies, it’s a hobby, go play a skirmish game, play your 6 models and fuck off.
Don’t like one part, don’t buy it! Sounds solid, people are asstards for griping about this shit, seriously, go blow a goat.
I want my rules, I want em’all faster, bigger and better.
Awesome to see you smile about the ‘nyds, I personally can’t wait to see what GeeDub’s going to drop on us for the 3rd instalment!
Haha, I totally agree. Nids can’t ally with themselves? That totally makes sense, when 2 hive fleets meet they don’t team up, one consumes the other. How to fix the disparity in FOC slots? FORMATIONS!
Ezzzzzaktly!
Sorry for the foul tongue children, I just feel all the venom is ill spent these days. Even now that GW has fixed a supposedly crippled codex, people need rage about having to buy formations…
I enjoy the fluff in them, I would pay for a novel… I would pay for sweet ass rules… I want my grim dark fleshed out and ever expanding… I may even wantthe story line to advance…
But I’ll stuff my digi-fist in Gee-Dub if they ever combined these things and had the odacity to charge for them!!!
It’s unfortunate, but no mini company is your secret bro fisting friend, they are all business’, who aim to turn a profit at the expense of their consumers… Like say every business…
GW has not broken 40k, it’s a game. Spawn Camping breaks games, but the designers don’t design it so some asshole can ruin everyone’s fun by taking advantage of predetermined start points, it’s the asshole who’s doing its fault.
We as a community have to accept some of the blame for some of the shit that happens.
If you wake up and your first priority is to fire up the interwebz and bash the ever living shit out of GW… Find a new hobby? I’m not saying it’s poor form to get upset about stuff, but can you find an upside to any of this shit?
I take a bit of issue with this. Agreed, if you have to rebuild your army every time you play from a /tableflip, maybe take up knitting. But I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect a playable army from $50 codex. As soon as the nid dex dropped I started theory crafting armies (don’t judge what I do in my spare time), and my first thought was “Flyrants are amazaballs, but they’ll outpace the rest of the army. Only thing that’ll keep up is Gargoyles. 2 x flyarnts plus 60 gargoyles GO!!….ow wait, they’re not troops”.
Then a data slate comes out that not only makes gargoyles troops (and amazing ones at that) but also gives you another flyrant slot. Now I’m not saying GW colluded to make an unplayble codex so that you’d have to buy extra crap that should have been in from the start, but it does sound like an easy money grab if they did think of it. Chapter masters on bikes make bike units scoring, would it have been a stretch to have flyrants make gargoyles troops? No.
I’m more than willing to believe that GW dropped the ball on the Tyranid codex, and that they’re using data slates as band-aides. However going forward, if we keep seeing weak initial codexes supplemented with a barage of data slates then I don’t think it’s unfair to get mad at being scalped.
Well played Reece, great report as always. No offense to your opponent intended, but I enjoy seeing our lowly nids victorious against tau. When in control beat that triptide list, I’m not ashamed to admit I pumped my fist I triumph.
I had a game last night with a similar list to yours, subbing in 2 t fexs, a mawloc, and a quad gun aegis line for the carnifex(en?) And Crone. The aegis/Venomthrope combo was fantastic and completely neutralized any shooting coming that way, but the Biovores really stole the show, that reroll is money. The Mawloc whiffed horribly and was promptly snacked on by ghazzy, but the tfexen stood up through an insane number of loota shooting. I’m considering dropping the Mawloc and quad gun for at least a single dakkafex and some adrenal glands/other toys, wish I could get two carnifexen in there. ..
Keep up the good tyranid fight sir, and I’m looking forward to your skyblight swarm battle report. …
Lots of fun, thanks for the games!
Great game, Noah! Sorry for your shitty dice.
Just wanted to add that it looked like you guys both had fun too…haha, might be just a fact of both being nice guys, but I know sometimes going against something ‘new’ like the dataslate and having it be way more effective than you imagined can sour the time on the receiving end but those first few turns seemed like anyones game.
Did it feel oppressively over-powered? (lol thats probably a dumb question since I doubt anyone is going to feel bad for Tau getting ‘outshot’)
Anyway, thanks for the batrep! That custom terrain just looks great on the gaming mats!
So, with the new dataslate is the tyranid challenge still open? Haven’t seen anyone taking up the gauntlet recently!
And it’s ironic that Reece smashed up a Tau army with his Nids; reverse Nid challenge? hehe.
I paid myself $100, no worries! lol
Loved the formation battle Reece, thanks a lot! I still want to see one of the deathleaper or lictor formations with a mawloc heavy army. =D Tau, while still amazing don’t seem to be quite so unbeatable as before, I don’t think their formation would make them that bad, as long as you can’t double up on the same formation, it probably wouldn’t be that terrible out there. Certainly wouldn’t bother nids.
Would really like to see these formations compiled into a book.
Great game and an awesome battle report – just the right lenght at around 12 minutes, succint and to the point, and texted army lists in the beginning. Awesome looking gaming mats and good terrain. Thanks!
