It’s a birthday bat rep! Chris calls Reecius’ Nids out with his Iron Hands for his Birthday Battle and Reecius is happy to oblige. -EDIT: Shrouded is conferred onto the entire brood if a single model in it has it, nice! Thanks to Klaus Bak for pointing that out. Oh, and I cheated on Zoeys on accident, I had them each with an extra power, as Brotherhood of Psykers they get 1 extra, sorry for the confusion! As always, check out the Tactics Corner for more videos!
I think that Chris should tape and narrate every video battle report you guys do. Also, have you heard from his dad yet about that missing Storm Talon? I’m a bit concerned.
I agree! And yes, we are definitely going to stay on that Storm Talon story, it’s a hot one =)
I actually found it within ten minutes of getting home.
I don’t think I’ve seen that level of forged narrative before. It was invigorating.
I’m not done watching the report yet, I’m sure you’ve realized by now that a unit is Shrouded if any model in the unit is Shrouded. So it basically affects the entire unit if a single model is within range of the Venomthrope.
Beat me to it.
Yup, missed that.
Yeah, that’s pretty huge. And you spend about 5 mins of the video complaining about it like a broken record!
It was also a mistake to fire the large blast at the terminators… that Exocrine could just sit on it’s hands and fire 6 BS4 shots into them. Shitty dice and you could have hit the whole unit, but I think it might have been a better bet to go for the less risky roll and chip away.
I did bitch about it because I am so pissed and let down byt this crap book! Haha, but I was wrong. It honestly, didn’t make much difference, I made so many saves on the Gants. It would have meant 1 more lived.
The blast could have hit them all, I think it was the right call. I’d do it again in the same circumstances, every time.
So….you going to lay down with that swarmlord model and ream him like your getting reamed?
We make sweet love. He’s a generous partner.
LOLOL!
Awww swarmy is always glad you came.
Man Chris was having a good time. What a genki guy lol
He forges serious narratives! haha, he is a fun dude.
this.. was.. GOLD JERRY GOLD.
Nice win Reece! 😉 Dual flyrants might be the way to go >_< Just makes me terrified at the idea of Tau. Need catalyst like nobody's business and some sick alpha striking I suppose.
Yup, and massed Gargs to just swarm the enemy to tie shit up ASAP.
Nice to see the nids win a match. Wish my rolling was as lucky as Chris’ in this in the last tournament I went to.
How does a Tyrant on foot with 3 tyrant guard and a venomthrope do? Just thought I would ask cause if I did decide to buy me some Tyranids I would want to run one this way…
I think that unit will get destroyed relatively easily for how many points it costs, unfortunately.
Ok, I might just skip out on Tyranids then. Pity cause I really like the models, but I already own dread mob orks. I can’t be losing all my games haha
Reece, your a very patient man… Home boy acted blitzed LOL
Chris is a hyper dude, it’s all good! hahaha
You guys are goofballs. 🙂 I have played guard for a long time, so maybe I am tainted…what are your thoughts on playing them more like horded IG?
I think you need masses of little bugs to have any hope of winning a competitive game.
Reecius- I’m a big fan of you and FLG, I’ve ordered from you guys before, been in the store, etc. So understand I say this in a friendly tone, not a douchy internet tone: so after the very uneven dice rolling, the mistake with shrouding, and some self admitted tactical mistakes (like with your warlord)…you STILL won! This battle report was sort of strange to watch in this regard because you kept complaining about how bad Tyranids were while everything was working against you and then you still won?
I barely won against an army with no AA, deployed poorly and Chris himself has personal limitations that limit his ability to play really tactical 40K. He’s a great guy and fun but he doesn’t play high level 40K. And I BARELY won. Nids really, really struggle. They are truly awful.
And I cheated, too =( Zoeys only get 1 power.
Take what lessons (if any) from this that you will. Here’s what I take away:
Chris’s list was not optimized, nor was his deployment, nor was his understanding of mission parameters. This is no criticism of Chris–never met the guy and I love him already.
Reecius’ list was optimized (theoretically, since list-building is still where we’re at with this turd), his deployment was strategically (and tactically) sound (again, theoretically, since we’re still at that stage with regard to deployment), and his understanding of mission parameters is excellent (or perfect, whichever).
Reecius managed a respectable alpha-strike and still experienced more attrition and power-loss than Chris. What it came down to was nothing more than Reecius’ understanding of the mission parameters. Reecius won in spite of his ‘Nids, not because of them.
Little thing that you all should know that I am both proud of and have fun with: My lists are NEVER optimized. Plus I don’t have a lot of models, I use what I have.
Right on!
Do you think the 5+ cover save for shooting through screening units combined with the shrouded from the venomthorpe would make the tyranid warriors a more viable synapse choice? 3+ mobile cover save on troop slot synapse might make them more usable? Especially when you are wanting to use your tyrant HQ off on their own.
Not in the current meta. IN a casual game? Sure. But when armies ignore cover with AP 4 weapons in huge volumes? Those guys are dead meat.
I think that is more a commentary on the overpowered nature of tau and eldar. I don’t know if chaos, daemons, sm, or da have that kind of high strength, low AP, cover ignoring firepower to make them non viable? Maybe tau and eldar broke the meta, and the rest are much closer together? Maybe this is the basis of the ignores cover rule change rumored for v 6.5? Weakens both these armies, while not changing their codex directly. Doesn’t affect the other armies nearly as much.
I’m in Wisconsin, so I won’t be challenging anybody at FLG anytime soon (or ever), but I’d be happy to supply my 1850 Noise Marine list and have it played vs. Reecius’ nids. I’d even bet 100 Internets that my list wins. Hint: it’s the Blastmasters and the Baleflamers….
There is a ton of “Ignores cover” in the game beyond the “unspeakable two”
Thunderfire Cannons, Noise Marines with Blastmasters, Heldrakes, Anyone with access to Divination (almost everybody given the Inquisition and allies rules) Skull Cannons, Whirlwinds, Drop pods with Flamer equipped units. Colossus (I think that’s the IG Artillery which does anyway) Hive Guard. I’m probably forgetting a few as well.
Even ignoring the many completely cover negating examples anything with the barrage rule does excellent work as well by bypassing LoS and the directional cover saves and nuking the venomthropes themselves.
I think you could expect to see 1-2 min units with a strangler in the backfield for synapse support and pinning fire support. Yes, they would die easily to high str, low ap, ignore cover, but I’m willing to bet the first 3 turns of the game all these guns will be taking down your dangerous mc’s, not your annoying backfield synapse unit.
Also, I wouldn’t run them near my venomthropes, too much of a tempting str 8 pie plate target (especially if it ignores cover).
First published loss was to an inexperienced SM! Shame on you 😉 Reecius, for the Emprah or the Hive Mind?
Haha, still can’t decide who gets credit for this one =(
I liked the spirit of this report. Chris sure looked like he had a great birthday battle. Chris seems like he’d be intense to play against, and for a competitive player to take the time out to play this sort of game is great to see. The nids might be terrible, but they leveled the playing field a fair bit. Good job Reece.
Well get me and Chris together and we will be forging harder narratives than those blokes in the latest white dwarf, it would be on the sideline of broken narrative, and don’t forget to put the mulch in your garden when your done playing with your warp talons boys.
Tyranids FOR SCIENCE!!!!!
I have to ask- why no Tervigons? Most of my opponents bring at least two.
reece how about a good old one of everything list? there seems to be two or three things that would add death to the tactics of nids units shooting at a cheap unit of stealers and lictors in cover and more big bug wall as opposed to the flying squishies (the way they fucking should damn be) would it be better if GW threw this at us as an early april fools? then they drop Codex:Eatyourassemperor???? a series of supplements for all the underpowered bullshit the baddest mothers in the galaxy can wield? only eldar and tau got love among the xenos which is deserved, but I was really looking for excuses to build and paint bugs :O(
Chris is a Gamer GOD. More batreps with him Asap!
Hear, hear!
I watched my brother play Chris at a tounament one time…. brother Reese is an ambasodor of gaming and truely has my utmost respect!! Keep trying those nids but I truely think something was lost here… my opinion would be slow down on the release’s. I feel like I was at the drive thru and screamed the whole time in the mic….. lmao wow
Reece don’t forget that if you go to ground you don’t have to test for IB. Helps if you have to move your synapse away.
The Story of Chris, Champion of the gods, Part 1.
In the time before time when there was just heaving magma and chaos energy. Three super powered beings came from another dimension in their flying eternal space temple. The names of the these beings were Cthulu, Darth Vader, and Wereform Voltron. They combined their magical powers and forged the hardest narrative that was ever forged, an epic level spell of immense proportions. When the proto-planets were aligned, their followers the Wurm men of Zamboni sacrificed a thousand magical proto-drakes simultaneously. This created a maelstrom of cosmic FTN energy. The three beings, working in unison, siphoned 1% of the maelstrom to create the universe as we know it and the pantheon of gods. In doing so, this was their doom, for they couldn’t handle all that immense power. Their eyeballs exploded and their blood boiled, killing them.
The newly created Pantheon of Gods were like, “holy shit the other 99% of this cosmic FTN energy is totally going to destroy our fledgling universe. We have to do something about it!” So, the gods funneled all the energy into creating a divine champion, a truly powerful entity that far eclipsed them. This champion they named Chris and then cast out through space and time, so that he might forge the greatest narrative, even greater than “The hardest narrative that was ever forged.” in so doing would forge his own destiny at the final battle between good and evil at the end of time.
Marvelous!
I wouldn’t give up on Swarmy just yet Reece, ML 3 and giving out Pref Enemy aint too shabby (not to mention his MASSIVE synapse range), I think he just needs a list carefully built around him to work. Maybe him w/ full guard, another Tyrant w/ full guard and hive commander so you can outflank a big unit of termagaunts. Back them up with two Tervigons maybe? Just be sure to take Mawlocs or Trygons in your heavy section so you have something to pressure the enemies shooting.
Good to see you at least trying with the book though, just keep working with it, it is a very good ‘dex if you give it a chance. I would mention the boo boo you made with shrouded but it seems like a lot of people already have pointed that out (it did make all the comments you made about how bad Vthroapes are for the rest of the video pretty humorous though XD).
The 2 full units of Tguard was a little ambitious, but here’s a stab a just a regular list with him….
Swarmy w/ full Tyrant Guard
2 Units of 30 T.Gaunts (Spinefists)
2 Tervigons with Regen
2 T Fexes with Acid Spray, Beatles, and Regen.
A Brood of 2 DakkaFex’s
1850
Thats just a first crack, I still haven’t wandered away from 2 Flyrants yet, but I do think Swarmy is good, i’ll playtest more but I see potential with him.
Give it a shot and let us know how it goes.
There ya go Nid vicory, happy camper over here in watching this. Im sure it wouldve been more of a victory if the Marines actually felt pain instead of making em all. Wins a win gratz
