Golden Throne GT is Behind us!

News

It was a great event! Big thanks to Rob and Co. for putting it on. It was well run, a lot of fun, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves a great deal. This is a quick report, more in depth info to come.

Team Zero Comp went in force and we had a ton of fun. Our team won the team event by a good margin as Frankie and I went undefeated day 1 to go on to the finals, and Stave Stiff when 2-1 and ChristianA, the Cadillac of Men, who usually is in the hunt to win it all went 1-2 with his Drop Pod Wolves. Christian is a bit out of practice and was not prepared for the craziness Tau can bring.

The event itself was fun with a TON of space for every game which is really nice. Every table had an extra table to put your stuff on which was so nice. Really can’t stress how awesome it was to have that extra space. As the Golden Throne grows I am sure it will be unrealistic to expect the extra space but it was nice while it lasted.

There could have been more terrain but as TO’s, we know how hard it is to get all the terrain you need for adequate terrain for that many tables. I am sure we will see more pieces per table as time goes on just as with our events.

Francoise, as he does, brought the biggest cheese dick list he could come up with and steam-rolled almost everyone he played! 6 Venoms, 6 Ravagers, Wraithknight, Farseer….ouch! Most people couldn’t handle that. He made it to game 5 of the 6 before being knocked out of the event by my Marines/Wolves.

I brought a wonky list of Marines and Wolves that was all about tricks and flexibility. I brought it because I thought it would be fun to play and I like lists like that and I did surprisingly well with it. I made it to the finals playing through some really tough games, every single victory was by the skin of my teeth (except against Frankie, whose dice failed him and got ROFLstomped). In the finals I played Taudar and had them beat, dead to rights but made a huge mental blunder turn 5, forgot to get out of my transport on the objective, the Jetbikes (6 of the 8 models he had left on the table) jump on objectives and the game ends…doh! Hahaha, what a blunder on my part and great luck for Adam. But hey, he hung in there while getting drubbed all game and stole victory from the jaws of defeat, well played!

it was a lot of fun, and I would gladly come back. I will post an in depth report later, but here’s my list for now.

Lysander

Librarian: Gate, Null Zone

Rune priest Jaws, Storm Caller

Scouts x 5: Teleport Homer (Some of my Best men!)

Scouts x 5: P.Axe

Grey Hunters x 5: Flamer

Razorback

Grey Hunters x 9: P.Axe, Wolf Standard, Flamer

Drop Pod

Sternguard x 10

Drop Pod

TH/SS Termies x 5

Ironclad: Melta, H.Flamer, Grenades

Dreadnought Drop Pod

Long Fangs x 6: M.Launchers x 5

Land Raider Crusader: M.Melta

My list was all about tricks, deployment options, mobility and key units with abilities that are game winning in 6th ed: Runic Staff, Jaws (which is one of the most broken powers in the game, honestly), Null Zone, Gate+Teleport Homers, Sternguard, Lysander, etc.

It was fun and the army didn’t really smash armies, but played to objectives and won, which is my favorite way to play. Oh, and Lysander….chief! He still just kicks ass and takes names like nothing. He plus Sterguard (bolter drill) was devastating. Combo that with Null Zone and Daemons cry.

Anyway, I will go further into it later, but all the combos and options in there was what made the list so fun. Almost won the whole thing, too!

Anyway, great fun, all my games were against fun, skilled players and the whole team had a great time.
