News
- 2nd half of the Eldar orders have pretty much all shipped! Big thanks to GW and our rep for getting that to us.
- We will be closed from July 5th through the 7th. We will be at Anime Expo the entire time running the tournament, demo games of 40K for anyone interested, selling product, and gawking at hot cosplay girls!
- Las Vegas Open news! Beerhammer! Dinner! Frankie in a Banana Hammock! Haha, maybe not, but here’s a link to The Dice Abide blog where Adam outlines what I think is going to be a crazy fun event!
- Big shout out and thanks to Privateer Press for sending us an awesome support package for the upcoming Duel Con event we are running in Arizona in September.
- We’ve had folks writing in and calling about our pre-release special for Apoc and we decided to hold back on this one and wait until we know we can get all the stock we need. So, we still offer our normal, very good 20% off pricing, but we probably won’t have the sale until we know we can source all of the stock we need.
- So a good friend has drug me into the hobby kicking and screaming with his brother’s no longer used GK army. I’ve read the codex cover-to-cover, but I’ve only played one game, and that was a duo game playing as Tyranids, and I didn’t really know what the heck was going on. The army list I’ve got is Draigo, 10x Paladins, 15 x GK troops, and one venerable dreadnought.
Ultimately, I’m just asking for general tips/pointers/suggestions on how to run this list tactically sound. You guys have a GREAT podcast, and thought I’d pick your brains on this topic. Thanks in advance!
Best,
Josh B
- The Seattle Battle Bunker is closing on July 28th and will be turned into a Hobby Center.
- Frankie and I were invited to join in on the coolest narrative campaign I’ve ever seen! Check out the link. Last year this was an amazing event!
Rumors
- Beating a dead horse. Lordalchemy on our blog noted that we’ve been trashing the CSM book too much lately, and fair enough. It isn’t because we hate the book it’s because we felt so let down at how awesome it could have been.
Rant Session
Rules Lawyer
- Thanks to Gary Parcival for pointing out a rules error we made: I accidentally said Fateweaver gives you a reroll per phase but it is per turn. Also, do you all read that as player turn or game turn? In the Independent Tournament FAQ we ruled it as only the Daemon player’s turn and couldn’t be used to make the game end or continue.
- Thanks to Mike Zogz for pointing out that charging through difficult terrain into an existing combat doesn’t trigger an initiative penalty as I had thought. This is why Banshees make a terrific counter assault unit.
- Tzeentch Lord on a Disc, does he get the +1 toughness bonus you would normally get for a Jet Bike?
- This one comes to us from Ben R. The good old Black Mace and does it trigger a toughness test per wound or 1 total?

Apoc Army Pictures!
Draigo, 10 Paladins with 4 Psycannons/Apothecary/Brotherhood Banner/Stave, 10 GKSS with 2 Psycannons/Psybolt Ammo, 5 GKSS with 1 Psycannon, Dreadnought with 2 TL Autocannons/Psybolt Ammo is 1510pts. Grab a Rhino, Razorback, and a second Dreadnought, and you’ve got a pretty good 1750 army. You might also want to gram Coteaz and some basic Guardsmen to use as cheap Warrior Acolytes for another scoring unit, and would get you up to 1850. A third Dreadnought and a couple more power armor GKs will get you up to 2000.
ahhhh, need to buy tickets for vegas open…. the wait is killing me! :). I’m coming from New Zealand with my missus, can’t wait. Also big props for the battle reports you guys are consistently the best out there.
Awesome! Can’t wait to have you guys, that is so cool you are coming from New Zealand! We look forward to meet you.
And glad you like the bat reps!
We’ve always played 1 test per wound. If you read the wound allocation rules in combat, you actually resolves wounds one at a time as described on p.25. This is actually really important when dealing with multi-wound units too, since you can kill one with the T-test before you move on to the next, which I’m pretty sure was intended.
Sorry about the poor formatting, it looks much better when it’s in a table. The naming was kind of random, but yeah, Black Legion with Orks (all my CSM are painted as Black Legion). I might have to make up another bike lord, since I’ve already got to work converting up on the claw/brand lord (WIP shot here: thediceabide.com/stuff/bikelord.jpg). Actually this army was made mostly in response to Tau… I’ve found that shoving as many threats in their face as quickly as possible is working for me better than giving them more time to shoot at me.
PS – Thanks for the shout out, I can’t wait for the LVO. Beerhammer is going to be a blast! Which reminds me, make sure the Beerhammer tables are near the restrooms…
Hahaha, good call!
The Brand is definitely better against Tau, no doubt.
And no worries on the formatting, it happens all of the time. Typically I can fix it to fit, though.
I think the list is good though, and the name is funny! haha, might want to stick with it though it may rub someone the wrong way if they don’t get it. If possible we should run a video bat rep with it!
Actually guys I have been listening since fifth edition but I agreed with the grey knight hate… lol. Thanks for the shout out. I definitely play the tzeentch lord getting plus 1 toughness for being on a disk. As for CSM troops sucking, they are not to bad. I agree that they can get expensive so i usually run 10 man csm squads with ccw, melta and plasma and the champ with a power weapon for 198 points. Not the greatest but when I put down 4 squads like this in a 1500 or 1750 point game backed up with 1 or 2 squads of cultists they tend to be overwhelming by just the shear amount of bodies on the table. (Unless im facing heldrakes that is).
Yes, we certainly were hating on GK last edition, hahaha!
I think CSM can work, they are cheap. Running them with minimal upgrades is the key, I think. Why do you run Plasma/Melta out of curiosity? I always like to keep weapons close to the same if possible.
Makes the unit a multipurpose tool, one that can go after vehicles or 2 up armor saves, besides if i lose a unit another can take its place. Think of it as my wannabe TAC marines.
Hmm, interesting. I have been experimenting with various builds but so far have been pretty disappointed with them. I WANT to like them, though, hahaha, so I keep asking people that are using them what they like about them and why hoping to learn some new tricks.
Umm no fair showing apoc armies and not having an apoc game on the calendar. Me and the boy want to come down and dump a metric crap ton of models on the table again!
We’ll have to have another Apoc game, soon!
also not fair to review a list and then whack off the points from the opening without discussing the army :(, going to have to bust out my 15000+ points of eldar………

That sir, is a big ass army!
Reece, I was having a… discussion with someone regarding the fact that you don’t drop to I1 when charging through cover in to a unit already engaged in combat, but couldn’t for the life of me track the page down again. Doesn’t seem to appear in either the assault or difficult terrain sections. Help a brutha out? Also would you say that applies in a situation where Unit A assault through terrain, their initiative drops to 1, then Unit B assaults but since the target unit is now engaged this rule applies?
Nevermind, it’s in the FAQ, and it has to be in a previous turn.
Sounds like you found it! Yeah, it has to be a turn or more later to get the bonus, otherwise Gants would be AMAZING for Nids! Well, more amazing than they already are.
