I am surprised that no one has jumped all over the new chaos spawn. 5 MoN chaos span only costs 180 and has 15 t6 wounds that move 12″ and ignore terrain, AND are fearless and have d6+2 attacks on the charge.
For these boys are the new wraiths, imagine 15 of these only costs 540 pts and has 45 t6 wounds that are going to assault on turn 2 and can have a couple nurgle b8iker lords leading them for extra shenanigans.
Food for thought, but I believe these guys are the key to a brutal army… I mean, consider that it takes 3 full units of scatter walkers GUIDED to ensure one unit is wiped if these things have a 5+ area terrain save. That’s crazy!
You hit the nail on the head though, and the funny thing about all of the good Chaos lists I am seeing (at least that look good to me at this early point in time) is that they have a decided lack of Chaos Space Marines! hahaha
I was thinking of taking IG allies for my CSMs:
2x Plasmacutioner Tank Squadron
1x Patoon with two squads, command squad, and maybe 2 TL Autocannon Sabre platforms
1x Psyker HQ
IG squads are more capable troops for a good price.
Main CSM army would be something like:
Nurgle Lord with Palenquin, sigil, and Black Mace
Squad of 14 PMs, 2x Plasma
Squad of 20 cultists
And prolly either…
2x Drakes
or
2x Forge/Mauler Fiend
or
3x Helbrutes
and an Aegis with Quad.
I haven’t done the math yet, but that should come out close to 1750. Any input is greatly appreciated.
I’ve come to the conclusion that there is no good reason to take any sort of marine in a CSM list aside from not wanting to put your best modeling efforts in the closet until they become useful again with a FAQ. It would be really cool if any HQ with the respective Mark unlocked the Cult Elites.
This is how the list shook out after doing the math:
I would give those Plasmacutioners Sponsons, they can move and shoot everything and it makes them so much more potent.
Auto Cannons on the Havocs all day, every day, and don’t mix weapons, IMO. Go cheap, they are more points efficient.
Lastly, MoN on the Oblits every single time. It makes them SOOOOOO much harder to kill. Now they aren’t getting dropped by Las Cannons and such in a single shot.
You don’t need VOTLW that much, honestly, I think you could use the points better in other spots.
Otherwise, a very solid list!
And don’t get down on Chaos yet, they are quite good, it will just take some digging to find their sweet spot.
I see people recommending Sabres all the time for AA. I know it is a FW model but can’t find any rules saying it has sky fire or interceptor. Is the recommendation because they are twin linked?
A few reasons. Twin linked, Intercetpor and sky fire, and they are artillery, which means the entire unit is toughness 7, 3+ armor against shooting attacks. Downs side: If they break, the guns are lost. Stick them behind an Aegis line for extra goodness, and they can go to ground if they need to for the 2+ and can get back in the fight with an officer issuing an order.
For 150pts, they’re a great buy, really solid all around unit and particularly vicious against Flyers. They’re very vulnerable to fast assault units though, and units that can get around the aegis and pack some powerful weapons like plasma, etc.
No worries! And yeah, that is an excellent book. A lot of really cool stuff, I particularly like the Nightwing and Vulture! The Barracuda is cool, too.
Phil Kelly is definitely reachable if you dig around.. 😉
Hahaha, that just may be true….

Spawn are pretty brutal, no doubt.

I think that looks solid. You have AA, assault power, multiple scoring options, and some psychic power.
I think you will do quite well with that list, or any permutation of it. It is a good all rounder.
One thing though, Las Cannons on the Sabres instead of Autocannon, IMO.

What document in the FW updates says they have sky fire and interceptor?
What unit are you referencing?
Sabres
They’re in Aeronatica Imperialis.
Thanks I need to get a copy of that one still!
