So my creative juices have been flowing and I have a few projects that I think I am going to green light and go through with.
So my min goes crazy thinking about all the cool things you can do with a game as wonderfully complex as 40K. Your imagination can run wild and as the universe the game takes place in is so big, almost anything is possible.
You can go with established fluff (although it changes it all the time) or you can do your own thing and go crazy with it! I love seeing what people come up with, it’s awesome.
So, my mind has become fixated on a few new armies I’d like to work on (although I always have ideas like this!) but these are sticking enough that I am 99% certain I will go through with at least one of them. Let me know what you guys think, too!
Idea 1
Samurai Themed Marines!
With these very awesome bits (and we carry a lot of these products at a discount, just ask us what you’re looking for!), I can make some sweet looking Samurai Marines! Check out this scratch build for what I am shooting for. I would use Plasticard to make the lower body armor as you see on this model.
The end result is a pretty awesome looking model! Check out www.underthecouch.net for more inspirational conversions!
I think I would use the Grey Knights book to represent these guys as that means I wouldn’t have to make too many of them (little buggers will be labor intensive) and I currently don’t have a Grey Knight army. I think Space Wolves would work well too, but I already have a Wolf army. Plus, the GK book opens up a lot of options for cool stuff like these….
There are some sweet miniatures out there that could serve to make a really awesome army of unique miniatures. For me though, the army must also play well on the table or I wont want to play it. I have been down that road before and it sucks to spend a lot of time to make something cool and then not use it. That’s why in the planning stage I like to bounce ideas around for cool units and then try and shape it into a list that will also be effective. That’s the trick, but it is a fun challenge!
Lastly, check out this really cool Samurai themed Space Marine army I dug up while looking for ideas!
So what do you guys think about that? I think it would be great fun! Here’s the list I am messing around with right now. Not necessarily the final product, but just where my mind is at with it now. I have a lot of ideas for cool conversions and such, but any ideas from you all would be very cool, indeed! We’ll go into some more of the ideas for other armies next time.

All I know is using Musha Gundam in 40k would be suh-weet. Unfortunately, that 1/100 scale model kit will probably be way to big for a dreadknight. It’s like 8-9 inches tall. If you could find it in 1/144 then it would work much better I think.
I read that it is between 5-8 inches, so I think it may work…but hey, even at over 8″ it would still be pretty damn awesome!
I think it could be a cool list, though that sample model is a bit “on the nose” for samurai marines. I think a few models like that one be cool, but unless it’s an assault squad I’d miss the bolters.
I agree, which is why I was thinking more Grey Knights as they have Storm Bolters, too.
I actually was looking for Japanese Samurai items in 40mm – 50mm to convert some Tau Crisis Suits. Saw the KrOmlech stuff and like it but think it is not sizable enough to go on those Tau models.
There is a cool rising suns Asian themed space wolves army at the blog, “you and what army”. Very nice with tattooed faces too.
Yeah, I saw that army, it is pretty awesome. I think a Japanese themed Tau army would be ace, too! It really fits the aesthetic.
