Logan wrote:Heres how I see it:
Sept- CSM/ possible starter set.
Oct- Starter set possibly, if not, flyer wave with Voidraiven, Tau Lamprey, maybe another.
November- Fantasy, New 40k terrain.
December- the Hobbit, paint bundles etc.
Logan wrote:The name Lamprey is by no means official. Its entirely possible that will not be its name. Also possible it wont be released till codex.
And yes I meant the harpy haha. I just couldnt remember its name.
Logan wrote:Its not an official name. But i hear things….
Logan wrote:Yea i have TONS of info on tau. From the new characters to the Assault Crisis Suits….and i have even heard the rumor NO MORE KROOT!
Logan wrote:I cant tell if the NO KROOT! rumor is true but it makes sense. I am lets say VERY invoved with the playtesting process of the codex and I have seen no kroot units. Shhhhhhhh dont panic.
Logan wrote:Talking to guy whonis higher up than me in an email here is what he said
” Now Logan, I have received your emails regarding your next project. You asked why there has been a lack of a certain unit(Kroot) all I can tell is that right now it is being heatedly discussed wether to keep them in our upcoming release. We want this book to refelct the primary army, not necessarily other “mercanary” forces. When we sort it out we promise to let you have a peak.
Thank you for your concerns and comments regarding this matter.”
Logan wrote:As for the “Lamprey” iam not sure yet. But the assault crisis suits have expirimental rules where once per game they gain BOTH benefits of moving with their jump things(unamed at the moment) which lets them move 12in. Then reroll assault distamce if desired. If the first attempted charge is successful you gain Furious Charge.
This is ALL expirimental though.

Guys dont make the mistake that no kroot is all bad. They are going to focus much more on the taus firepower which is ridiculous already! Think how necrons got some cool counter assault units evem though their primarily shooting. Same is being done for tau. Assault Crisis Suits, Drones that fly and decapitate people, new characters. And some awesome new vehicles. Oh and they have jetbikes which are famtastic! Assault 2 twinlinked melta. And they have Stealth! Gonna be great!
No Kroot, hmm? That would indicate to me that they may do the Kroot as one of the rumored “mini-codices” we’ve been hearing talk of.
I wonder what “Nov: Fantasy” means….
I hope that this is completely wrong, but knowing GW and how they seam to love splitting armies into seperate books (chaos anyone?) it makes too much sense. The “mercenaries” are THE most interesting aspect of the Tau, and the aspect I wanted to see EXPANDED, not dismissed. The idea that they take in any race willing to join their cause was awesome. The kroot have been a key aspect of the Tau since before there WERE Tau, since the first Tau model was the Games Day kroot shaper. The Vespid and the human Gue’vasa and the behind the scenes races like the demiurg all added to what made the Tau awesome.
I certainly didn’t play them for those godawful crisis suits
Yeah, I tend to agree. I love Kroot and would like to see more of them, not less.
We’ll see though, I have a feeling we may get a fully fleshed out Kroot mini-book. The fact that they refer to them as mercenaries and not as members of the greater good makes me think that that line of reasoning may be accurate. Because if they are a mini-dex of mercenaries, they could conceivably work for a number of different armies.
I’d be down for that actually. I would for them to bring back kroot mercs.
This ties in with a rumor I’d heard a while back. It said we’d be seeing Merc. forces released via WD and specifically set up to be taken as allies. The examples listed were Squats/Demiurg, Genestealer Cults, and even Zoats. I don’t see it as a big strech for Kroot to get the same treatment. Heck, since they’re a mercenary race, that would let other armies hire out for them as well. 🙂
Logan sounds like a great guy and I believe most of the stuff he says because when they get released they can be completey different.
He even says he only get some rules on paper to play with and record what works well and dosn’t no names of the units or anything, so it is possible one of the units he played with could of been kroot but different or someone else was trying out the aliens in the empire.

Oh wow, nice one! I will add that to the main post, thanks for sharing.
No problem here to help the fellow wargamer
Tau make there money in the Asian countries being close to gundam etc so therefore kroot isn’t what makes the money. while others like the idea of kroot it’s not what they earn the money from in that codex.
one of the reasons kroot don’t make money is because they aren’t good if they became good they would make money.
Merc: from what I hear Tau don’t sell well in Japan. They were an attempt to get in on that aesthetic, but that aesthetic is old in Japan, and if people there want gundam they get gundam. The imperial factions are apparently much more popular over there.
dosn’t surprise me lol I bet its space marines like in the west.
